It was trialled years ago, and we got something silly like, ooh, $20

There was some grumbling at the time about it, which is why I believe
it got dropped - the minimal income wasn't worth annoying people over.

On the other hand, it's worth trying again. Don't put it on mainspace
external links*, but put it on the Special:Booksources URL, and see
what happens.

*as an aside, if anyone could figure out a good way to keep checking
our external links for affiliate referrers, etc...
