The fact that you have access to a mailing list doesn't mean that you
have to read it :-). It just means that, when someone mentions (as
happened in this thread) that there was a particular discussion
happening on this or that private list, you should be able to take a
look at it without asking for permission. And I absolutely think that
Board members should be able to do that. This may change when we have
people on the Board in representative roles and a separate Executive
Committee, but for now, there is no such distinction.
