More precisely it is a subsidised organisation which funnels any profit 
back into programming. The BBC is aided by the fact that anyone who 
watches TV has to pay a TV licence.

Interesting fact - only a very small percentage (3.5%, or £0.35 per 
month) of the licence fee is spent on bbc.co.uk.
