I would like to point out one thing. Langcom should be aware that Sylheti
wikipedia uses sylheti nagri script. And not many sylheti people can
actually read or write this script. Most sylheti uses Bengali alphabet to
write sylheti (also see

I can see there is a discussion about this on sylheti wikipedia:

where a sylheti pointed out that there is an organization did a survey and
found out only 12-25 thousands people can actually write or read this
script.
There are c. 10.3 millions sylheti, which means sylheti wikipedia will be
un-accessible for vast majority of sylheti.
There is also pointed out that possible solutions would be lang converter
like some wiki has. I would request langcom to create or ask developer to
create a lang converter for sylheti wikipedia. Mapping already exists, see
https://github.com/mayeenulislam/nagri-bangla

we should look into before making a final approval. The fact that there is
an existing open-source converter looks promising, and hopefully we can
adapt this to MediaWiki quite easily. I'll reach out to the Sylheti
community to ask for their input as well.

The problem is valid, but probably not a blocker.
If the current content is valid in that script, it can be approved,
especially if a reasonable converter can be made.

... Oh, and I would also have doubts if the current Sylheti Incubator
editors start strongly objecting to using the other script. It sounds like
a case where both scripts should be allowed, and rejecting one of them too
strongly is a serious community problem.

Hi all,
I would like to propose the approval of the Sylheti Wikipedia (Wp/syl) [1].
The project has had satisfactory activity since at least December 2022, and
notably one of the main contributors has stayed active since August 2018
(that's five years!) [2]. The localization is also good, with the most
important messages having been translated as well as ongoing translation of
the rest of MediaWiki core [3].
Since this will be the first Wikimedia project in this language, we will
need verification for it.

Hello Jon,
I have checked the syl Wikipedia incubator project but the letters do not
appear at all (formatting issue probably, I see only small squares). I do
not know if it is only for me but if other colleagues have the same issue,
then maybe it has to be solved before moving forward with the approval. Can
anyone confirm?
