Good idea. I'll see what we can do in Sweden.

Yeah, Lodewijk's correct ---- I meant writers, academics and so forth. I think Richard Stallman's great, but he's not well-known outside free software / free culture circles, and I think the 10th anniversary is an opportunity for us to facilitate or promote a broad public conversation about Wikipedia's societal impact.
Media love anniversaries, because they provide a stable, predictable hook for stories, and they offer an opportunity for think-y, reflective pieces. So I think this is a great chance for us to encourage smart people to reflect publicly on us, as we approach the 10th. It's particularly a good opportunity because it would be _about_ Wikipedia, rather than being just a reaction to the scandal du jour (Wikiscanner, Wikileaks, etc).
Thanks, Sue

Lets say that I think there are other people who probably have a different audience that might have a bigger effect. And indeed, after his show in Buenos Aires, I am not so sure we should invite Stallman to this kind of things - of course I have nothing at all against it if he writes something though. Anyway, my remark was meant as an ironic one - forget about it, it is no big deal :)
I think the original idea of Sue was to ask specifically "intellectuals" - now I dont know what she meant to define with that, but I primarily understood it to be broadly recognized intellectuals who have a status and whose statements about Wikipedia would make a difference. Based on her examples, I would expect that she referred to writers, academics etc. I think that would definitely be something to embrace.

yeah, we have extremely good experiences with Mr.Stallman :) I am sure he can write a wonderful pieces about Linux vs GNU/Linux...
I sense a disturbance in the force, Lodewijk. In the end, you support the idea or not?
