Subject: [Wikimediaindia-l] Announcing Indic Hackathon 2022 and Scholarship
Applications
To: <wikimediaindia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Dear Wikimedians,
We are happy to announce that the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group
will be organizing Indic Hackathon 2022, a regional event as part of the
main hackathon taking place in a hybrid mode during 20-22 May 2022. The
event will take place in Hyderabad.
As we have mentioned in our previous email informing about the grant
proposal, the regional event will be in-person with support for virtual
participation. As it is with any hackathon, the event’s program will be
semi-structured i.e. while we will have some sessions in sync with the main
hackathon event, the rest of the time will be upto participants’ interest
on what issues they are interested to work on. The event page can be seen
at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Hackathon_2022.
In this regard, we would like to invite community members who would like to
attend in-person to fill out a form for scholarship applications by 17
April, which is available on the event page. Please note that the hackathon
won’t be focusing on training of new skills, and it is expected that
applications have some experience/knowledge contributing to technical areas
of the Wikimedia movement.
Please post on the event talk page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Hackathon_2022> if you have any
queries.
Regards

Higher Education. You are kindly invited to participate in this survey if
you are working in the higher education related sector. We appreciate your
participation. And you are also very welcome to share this survey with your
networks.
The goal of this survey is (1) to retrieve a demographic observation about
the academic faculty’s perception of Wikipedia in Higher Education, (2) to
understand the factors that contribute to the perception of the academic
faculty towards Wikipedia, and (3) with the findings analyzed, develop
supportive programming.

Dear Proofreaders,
CIS-A2K is in a process to community survey and being conducted as part of a pilot study to collect baseline data on infrastructural needs of Wikisource platforms in India. The objective of the study is to identify current challenges and knowledge gaps in technological capacity, resources and training on Wikisource platforms in selected languages. Through an analysis of this data, the study aim will provide learnings and recommendations on potential strategies to address these gaps, including through collaborative intervention and training. You may read more about the study here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Research/Study_on_Infrastructural_N…
To design the programs based on the needs of the community and volunteers, we invite your valuable suggestions and thoughts. We would like to improve our working continuously taking into consideration the responses/feedback about the events conducted previously. We request you to go through the various sections in the form and respond.

Dear Wikimedians,
Greetings for the New Year 2022!
We are excited to announce that submission for session proposals has been opened for Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022, the upcoming online wiki-event which is to be conducted from 18 – 20 February 2022 during the occasion of International Mother Language Day. The submission will remain open until 23 January 2022.
You can submit your session proposals here -
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Wikimeet_India_2022/Submissions
A program team has been formed recently from highly experienced Wikimedia volunteers within and outside India. It is currently under the process of expansion to include more diversity in the team. The team will evaluate the submissions, accept, modify or reject them, design and finalise the program schedule by the end of January 2022. Details about the team will come soon.
Guidelines for submissions:
* The sessions will be on any Wikimedia related topics.
* Submissions are not restricted to India. Wikimedians from outside India are also welcome to submit proposals.
* The decision to accept or reject a submission will depend on the Program Team. Their decision will be final.
* The event will have different formats of sessions, like presentations, workshops, panel discussions and 5-minutes lightning talks.
* All sessions will be conducted online.
* The organisers will provide the support to help the presenter understand the use of online platforms like Zoom etc prior to the event..
* The organisers will also communicate with the presenter prior to the event to help understand the entire process, or for general preparation.
* A session can be around 20 minutes long or more. A lightning talk should be no longer than 5 minutes.
* There can be more than one presenter in one session. Feel free to make a group for your session.
* The presenters for long duration sessions must ensure that they will be available for the preparation and during their sessions.
* The presenters for lightning talks however can pre-record their sessions earlier, if they want and send it to the organizers to play the recording during their allotted time.
* A session will be conducted in English or any Indian language.
* Similar topics may be grouped together, or format may be changed by the program team. The program team will contact the session presenters if those decisions are taken.
We are sure that you will share some of your most inspiring stories and conduct some really exciting sessions during the event.
Our fist newsletter also is published here -

Dear Wikimedians,
As you may already know, the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) provides a
baseline of behaviour for collaboration on Wikimedia projects worldwide.
Communities may add to this to develop policies that take account of local
and cultural context while maintaining the criteria listed here as a
minimum standard. The Wikimedia Foundation Board has ratified the policy in
December 2020.
The current round of conversations is around how the Universal Code of
Conduct should be enforced across different Wikimedia platforms and spaces.
This will include training of community members to address harassment,
development of technical tools to report harassment, and different levels
of handling UCoC violations, among other key areas.
The conversation hour is an opportunity for community members from South
Asia to discuss and provide their feedback, which will be passed on to the
drafting committee. The details of the conversation hour are as follows:
- Date and Time: 16 September, 5 pm to 6:30 pm IST
- Meeting link: https://meet.google.com/dnd-qyuq-vnd | add to your
calendar

You can also attend the global round table sessions hosted on 18 September
- more details can be found on this page

Dear All,
The Centre for Internet & Society (CIS) is seeking applications for the position of Research Associate, to support its Access to Knowledge (A2K) Programme.
The research associate is expected to support the larger goals of the programme, which include growth of Indian language Wikipedias, related Wikimedia projects and the contributor communities. Your primary responsibility will be to undertake research on selected topics relevant to key areas of programmatic work. For the present year, the focus will be on studying challenges and efforts to bridge the gender gap/bias on Indian language Wikimedia projects, exploring possibilities of collaboration with organizations working on building resources related to gender and sexuality, and assisting with a baseline study on Wikisource in India.
Given present restrictions on movement due to the pandemic, this would be a remote, full-time position until further notice. We encourage applications from individuals identifying as women, LGBTQIA+ and of gender non-conforming identity and sexual orientation. The deadline for applications is Friday, August 6, 2021.
Please read the detailed call for applications here: https://cis-india.org/jobs/call-for-research-associate-access-to-knowledge-…. & https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Team/Join.
