Dear Wiki Community,
Winter is in full swing and we’ve been experiencing some very cold weather down in Cape Town. Hopefully the rest of the country is a bit warmer.
Just a last reminder that our online survey closes *this evening at 23:59*. If you have not done so yet, please take a few minutes to complete the survey http://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5pXdPBtl9B5BsDH. We want to form a better understanding of our SA editors and contributors.
*Wikipedia Primary http://wikilovesmonuments.co.za/wiki/Main_Page*
We are currently discussing a possible partnership with the team of the Wikipedia Primary Project https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_South_Africa/Wikipedia_Primary_School. The aim of this project is to provide the necessary information on Wikipedia to complete education at a primary level. We are very excited about this project and will keep you updated.
*Wiki Loves Pride: Help expand Wikipedia’s LGBT coverage*
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities are underrepresented on Wikipedia. In the month of June, Pride Month https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_pride#LGBT_Pride_Month, you can help to change this. Wiki Loves Pride https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Loves_Pride is a global campaign to expand and improve LGBT-related content across several Wikimedia projects and to celebrate LGBT culture and history. Wiki Loves Pride is an initiative of Wikimedia LGBT+ https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_LGBT%2B, an affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation.
*Wikipedia receives Spain’s Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation*
The Princess of Asturias Foundation http://www.fpa.es/en/ has announced that it is awarding Wikipedia the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation http://www.fpa.es/en/princess-of-asturias-awards/laureates/2015-wikipedia.html?especifica=0. The award recognises scientific, cultural and social achievements that form part of the universal heritage of humanity.
*Lexicon Wiki http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/Lexicon_Wiki *
We have created a platform to facilitate community discussions around SA language-wiki’s – Lexicon Wiki. We invite you to make use of this space for discussions with others from the SA wiki-community. This is meant to be a friendly space for brainstorming, ideas and feedback
That’s all from our side for this week.
Happy editing and stay warm!
Wiki Regards
