Hello everyone,
The Wikimedia Foundation is pleased to present our mid-year check-in for
the 2016- 2017 Annual Plan:*https://meta.wikimedia.org/?curid=10203717
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/?curid=10203717>*
This check-in, which was published on Meta-Wiki and presented to the Funds
Dissemination Committee (FDC) late last month, is a part of our engagement
in the FDC review process. Since its publication, we have been busy working
on the Foundation's next annual plan, but I wanted to make sure you were
all aware of the publication of the Mid-Year Check in Report.
Thank you to the FDC and others in the community for your feedback and
assistance with our annual plan process. I want to give a special thank you
to the members of the Foundation's Finance and Administration department
that have worked both on this check-in and the changes to our systems,
which have supported the level of detail we were able to provide. I would
also like to extend my appreciation to the Communications and Community
Engagement departments for their ongoing support and assistance with this
yearly process; as well as to each of the departments/teams that so
thoughtfully considered and outlined their plans for 2017-18.
We will continue to take feedback from the community and FDC on the annual
plan process, including reports like this one, and work towards making our
future efforts even better.
Saludos,
Jaime

Hi everyone,
Since early 2015, the Wikimedia Foundation has been evaluating efforts
and engaging in discussions related to the environmental impact of the
movement, and specifically the Foundation. During that time, we
supported improvements to our on-wiki documentation,[1] talked with
members of the community, and began reviewing internal processes.
The Wikimedia Foundation is committed to finding ways to reduce the
impact of our activities on the environment. We aim to always act as
responsibly and sustainably as possible, including favoring renewable
energy where it is available for our operations.
To help clarify and solidify our intentions in this important matter,
the Board of Trustees has passed an environmental impact
resolution.[2] This resolution commits the Wikimedia Foundation to:
1. Seek out information about our overall impact on the environment
and then work to minimize it;
2. Consider sustainability as an important part of decisions around
servers, operations, travel, offices, and other procurement;
3. Use green energy where it is available and a prudent use of resources; and
4. Starting in 2018, include an environmental impact statement in our
annual plan.
We appreciate the input of the nearly 200 Wikimedians that have
already spoken to this in on Meta-Wiki,[1] and hope that you will join
future efforts to minimize any negative impacts on the environment.
Thank you!
Kind regards,
María and Christophe

Dear Wikimedians/Wikipedians,
Today we are starting a broad discussion to define Wikimedia's future
role in the world and develop a collaborative strategy to fulfill that
role. You are warmly invited to join the conversation.
There are many ways to participate, by joining an existing
conversation or starting your own:
Track A (organized groups): Discussions with your affiliate, committee
or other organized group (these are groups that support the Wikimedia
movement)[1]
Track B (individual contributors): On Meta[2] or your local language
or project wiki[3]
This is the first of three conversations, and it will run between now
and April 15. The purpose of cycle 1 is to discuss the future of the
movement and generate major themes around potential directions. What
do we want to build or achieve together over the next 15 years?
We welcome you, as we create this conversation together, and look
forward to broad and diverse participation from all parts of our
movement.
Sincerely,
Nicole Ebber (Track A Lead), Jaime Anstee (Track B Lead), & the
engagement support teams [1][4]

As we mentioned last month, the Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve.
Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list,[2] and posted on Meta-Wiki.[3] Each month, we are sending overviews of these updates to this list as well.
Here is a overview of the updates that have been sent since our message last month:
Update 7 on Wikimedia movement strategy process (16 February 2017)
- Development of documentation for Tracks A & B
Update 8 on Wikimedia movement strategy process (24 February 2017)
