The plan was approved by the Board of Trustees at its meeting in

meeting on July 5, 2012. We were planning to publish the video
recording of that meeting at this point, but encountered technical
difficulties; the video will hopefully become available soon.

of Teahouse participants are women, compared to 9 percent of editors on
Wikipedia in general.

IPV6 Launch day (6/6/12) came and went without much fanfare, and we
launched IPv6 support for all Wikimedia projects

We have been keeping IPV6 traffic on since.
Also, regarding data dumps

month. We're looking for more mirror sites for media, dumps or pageview
stats; send us ideas!
And the Ops team has identified a new San Francisco colocation to be the
new West Coast caching center. Work on building up the infrastructure is
planned to begin this coming August/September. With this caching center,
we will be able to improve users' site experience for the North American
West Coast and Asia Pacific.

The team did the first deployment of VisualEditor and Parsoid

with an early version now live in a test namespace on mediawiki.org.
This editor is broadly feature-compatible with the old code which this
replaces, while being the first release that can create and edit pages.
The team is now planning to deploy new code to mediawiki.org as it
develops every two weeks or so.
We deployed an updated version of the New Pages Feed
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Special:NewPagesFeed> (formerly called Page
Triage <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Page_Triage>) on the English Wikipedia.
This new tool provides an enhanced list of pages for review by community
patrollers. The team also deployed the first version of a new curation
toolbar to appear on article pages, enabling patrollers to get more
article info, mark pages as reviewed, or tag them. You can check out the

The internationalisation team completed initial UI design and user
experience testing for the Universal Language Selector (ULS), and is now
developing an initial prototype.

* Cairo conference celebrates pilot successes: Wikimedia Foundation
staff and Cairo Pilot professors, Ambassadors, and students are
gathering at Ain Shams University in Cairo this week for a
celebration of the initial successes of the pilot program. Students
in seven classes at Ain Shams and Cairo University participated in
the pilot program this term, contributing the equivalent of 372
pages of content to the Arabic Wikipedia, even with the political
turmoil present the entire term.

Work in June continues to focus on a new editorial focus for the
Wikimedia blog, aiming to increase participation from our contributor
community, increase the amount of articles in non-English languages, and
developing new story areas based on emerging trends and issues in our

The Wikimedia Shop (http://shop.wikimedia.org) was readied for a soft
launch on English Wikipedia in June. The ultimate launch kicked off on
July 2, based on a geo-location enabled extension

Wikimedia/Wikipedia shop link on the WP navigation sidebar in the US and
Canada only. As the platform expands we hope to make the shop more

DC on preparations for media activities in the U.S. capital. As of
reporting time, dozens of mainstream media confirmed interest in attending.

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations in the UK released a report
in June that summarized their research and dialogs (with Wikipedians,
and with support from Wikimedia UK) on the topic of COI (conflict of
interest) editing of Wikipedia - specifically PR and marketing
practicioners editing the site. The report's high-profile advice that PR
pros not edit Wikipedia's public pages was widely covered by the English
language press.

A working prototype of the visual editor was announced in a June 21 blog
post, and resulted in a stream of mostly positive tone media stories.
Jimmy Wales' tweet on the topic - calling the editor "epically

Organisational Updates
Chapter audit is expected to be complete in couple of weeks.
Income tax department has responded to our income tax exemption (12A
registration) application and requested for additional information. Arjuna
Rao Chavala along with Chapter Consultant Mr MN Rao met with IT authorities
and clarified how the Chapter activities are charitable. As IT authorities
could not be convinced fully, it is decided to withdraw the application and
reapply at a later date.
*Elections*
Election rules were approved by the EC. Election Committee consisting of Mr
Gautam John and Mr Balasundara Raman were appointed. Further communication
regarding Elections will follow soon from Election Committee.

Membership as of 31 June, 2012 is 76, which includes all the renewals that

== Board meeting ==
We had one board meeting June 9, minutes are available in Swedish. [1]
== Member picnic ==
After the board meeting we had a picnic in Stockholm in a park near our
office. Around 15 members attended.
== Wikipedian in Residence ==
We are proud to announce the first two Wikipedians in Residence in Sweden,
employed by the Swedish National Heritage Board.
== White paper about GLAM:s and copyright ==
The White paper was launched and well recieved by the GLAMs. [2]
== Wiki-skills ==
* Leo represents WMSE in Liege at WikiSkill's project planning meeting
number two.
* The contract with Leo is extended.
* WikiSkills has finally a homepage of its own. [3]
* The results of the courses, the survey and the literature study
previously conducted are now presented in a "European state of the art
report" [4] to which WMSE has contributed substantially. There is also a
section on success factors when using wikis in the classroom.
* WMSE plan a small contest to gather pedagogical scenarios involving wiki
use. More on that later.
== Europeana Awareness ==
* Lennart Guldbrandsson (Project Manager) and John Andersson (Event
Manager) together with Jakob Hammarbäck (WMSE's secretary) all attended
Europeana's plenary in Leuven, Belgium from the 12<sup>th</sup> to the
17<sup>th</sup> of June. The group's main task was to networking with all
of the central persons in the European GLAM sector that participated there
and learn a bit more about the work done by Europeana and Europeana's many
partners.
* The preparations for the Wiki Loves Public Art (WLPA) contest was
initiated during the second half of the month and invitations to
participate in the planing and preparations was sent out on a number of
different email lists. So far three people from Sweden, Greece and Austria
have shown interest in working as national coordinators or in other ways
work as volunteers.
* A few potential GLAM events that we might be able to participate in
organizing have been identified and discussions have started with a few of
the Chapters about what the cooperation might look like and be about.
* A brochure about the WLPA and the planned GLAM activities was created to
be handed out during Wikimania in Washington D.C. with the hope of
attracting more international volunteers to the project.
* Laura Tuononen has started to work as a volunteer with the external
communications about the project, so far mainly through social media and
helping with the design of the brochure. A Twitter account has been created
and it already has over 50 followers (please see @wikieuropeana and use the
hashtag #wikilovespublicart to get updates through Twitter).
== The Hallwyll museum ==
=== Photo hunt ===
As part of our collaboration with the Council of the Swedish Central
Museums we had a photo hunt at the Hallwyl house. Museum staff, wikipedians
and a few new photographers took photos of the interiour and items from the
collection. A category on Commons was created. [5]
=== Edit-a-thon ===
As a follow up to the photo hunt an edit-a-thon was hosted at the Hallwyl
house to upload, categorize and work images into articles. A template for
linking photos to the museum database was created and will be used as more
images are uploaded.
== Access to technology ==
* The camera was used four times, at the Nobel museum, at the Halwyl
museum, in Härjedalen [6] and on a trip to Leuven with Europeana Awareness.
* A new video camera was bought.
* We have also ordered a soundrecorder, that can be used for interviews or
recording music.
== Community driven projects ==
* One volunteer scanned 77 000 pages and uploaded to
http://runeberg.org (a Swedish take on Project Gutenberg with public domain
works), made possible by a scanner and computer paid for by Wikimedia
Sverige.
* The Swedish 1536 bible was scanned and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons,
made possible by a scanner paid for by Wikimedia Sverige. [7]
* Photo journey in the foot steps of Carl Linneaus. [8]
== Upcoming in July ==
* Wikimania, all full-time staff members, several from the board and a few
volunteers from Sweden will participate.
