Hey Folks,
Its been a while since we created this mailing list. Now, I guess it is time to move forward with this idea and turn it into action. But before that let me cordially welcome you all and together, we, the South Asian communities would do better because we've such diverse communities in the movement.
For those who are new to this idea, Back in 2015 during Wikimedia Conference in Berlin, Representatives of Wikimedia Bangladesh, India and Nepal chapters decided to create a regional collaboration platform where communities of South Asia can help each others pooling resources, hosting events and promoting Wikimedia projects. It was felt that these regions have common history and tradition along with issues and problems, which can be addressed easily from this platform.
After that conference, we've arranged 3 meet-ups during international conferences in Mexico city, Italy and India. Pakistan and Sri Lanka community also joined us along the way. During this long way, we've created this mailing list for collaboration and a website (http://wikimediasaarc.org/) to get the word out. But unfortunately, that was it. Now it's time to do some actual on-wiki works together, I guess.
As a first step, we can arrange an article contest or a photography contest. If we start with article contest, it can be 'Wikimedia SAARC loves women" where each community will translate only women related article in their respective Wikipedia. Some of the agendas we discussed during WikiConference India can also be found in here at: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiConference_India_2016/Meetups/Wikimedia_...
Now dear friends, Whatever we want to do, let's do it :)
Cheers,
Nahid Sultan
