Dear Friends and Wikimedians,
We are excited to be getting close to implementing the re-launch of the grants strategy that we have been working on with all communities for several months. As you know, we recently opened the call to invite new members from the Wikimedia movement and the free knowledge ecosystem to join the new regional committees. *We request your support in identifying and inviting Wikimedians and free knowledge advocates to join the new regional committee for Africa and the Middle East.*
Who can participate?
- Wikimedia community members (both novices and experienced contributors are welcome) - Members of organizations aligned with the mission of the Wikimedia movement - People who work or have experience in the region of interest, in this case, Africa and the Middle East.
The committee's primary role will be to be strategic thought partners to help understand the complexities of any region and make funding decisions for grant applications in the region, providing knowledge and expertise to applicants to support successful movement activities.
At the heart of the strategy is ensuring that the committee has the diverse voices of people in the Wikimedia movement for participatory decision-making. Our hopes is for the call to join the committee to reach many people who have so much to contribute to the movement, so your support in spreading the word is essential.
You can find and share all the details about the call for applications in meta here. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Resources/Grants_Strategy_Relaunch_2020-2021/Regional_Committees Please note that we have extended the application by 3 weeks from today.
*Please share this call widely with your local networks.*
If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
We are very grateful for your participation in spreading this call to the communities in our region.
Veronica, on behalf of the Community Resource Team
