Dear Kimheng and other Khmer Wikipedians,
I'm attending #WikiWomen Camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 3-day event really helps me see the potential activities related to Wikipedia that can happen in the next months or years in Cambodia.
I really appreciate the work that has been done by Vantharith and the rest of the Khmer Wikipedian members.
At the workshop here involves women from all over the world, and they talk about the participation of women in Wikimedia movement. From 9-10% of the Wikipedia contributors are female. That clearly means that there is a lake of female participation -- not to mention the male involvement in our country.
My friends from journalism school (journalism students) and I will*organize an informal meet-up on one of the weekends *: "*Wikipedia takes Phnom Penh*". We invite friends who have cameras and laptops to meet at one cafe. There will probably be around 20 of us to join. Please join us if you're in Phnom Penh. Its informal and it won't be anything serious, lots of fun involved.
The reason why we're doing is that we want to increase the number of pictures taken in Phnom Penh in the Wiki Commons. At the same time, we'll help increase articles about Phnom Penh on English as well as Khmer Wikipedia.
This is just a call to other Wikipedians in town who are interested to join. ;-)

Hello Wikimedians!
I'm trying to get together a small meeting of dedicated Wikimedia users, contributors and enthusiasts at Hackerspace Phnom Penh on Sunday, 9 October 2011. I would really appreciate it if Wikimedians who are interested in building a local community come together and help me with this endeavour, so that we may have regular meet-ups in our city.
If you are interested in being a part of this effort, please respond as soon as possible. As of now, I am undecided on the time, but will go by what is most convenient to the participants.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me by email or call me at the phone number provided in the signature of this email. Looking forward to responses by interested participants.

Dear Kounila and everyone!
Happy to get your email and thanks a lot for this initiative! We really need someone who is active and keeps driving our Khmer Wikipedia forward. I am always onboard in our Khmer wiki projects, but due to physical distance limitation, it's hard to promote the movement on the ground in Cambodia.
Anyway, I believe it's a good start. Let's do this 'Wikipedia Takes Phnom Penh'. For those who is not familiar with the project and its concept, please have a look here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Your_City It would be great to get the local photography club/community involved (CPC lead by a friend of mine, Mr TRAM Lyrattanak aka GREEN)
I have once talked with him and Kimheng about a bigger project, namely Wiki Loves Monuments (more info here - http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments )
I will create a group for the organizing team for this project. If anyone interested, please voice yourself on our FB page (fb.me/kmwp.fb) Once we have a team, let's meet on Skype to do some brainstorming...
For me, I will send the WMF an email and see if they can help with anything. Maybe we can request them some merchandize for the participants, I don't promise, but will try my best.
Anyway, just an update about my status here, in case anyone might be interested. I got the travel scholarship to attend the Wikimania 2012 in the US... But unfortunately got the visa denial. Will try to apply for the 2nd time. So please wish me luck! So I can represent our Khmer Wikipedia movement as well as Cambodia.

Thanks Bong Vantharith and Kimheng for your response!
I've heard about Wiki Loves Monuments! Very interesting indeed! When Bong Vantharith comes back in August, let's do something big.
Right now with the request of my juniors of doing it as soon as possible, we have decided to do a very small event. I didn't know how to call it, so we just chose "Wiki takes PP"...just to mean that we'll take pictures for example, of the Councile of Ministers building. LOL, and then we can write a Wikipedia article about it!
Let me know what you think of it. I need Bong Vantharith's as well as Kimheng's help to teach them along with me how they edit articles on Wikipedia and upload photos to the articles as well as WikiCommons.
We intend to do this every other 2 weeks and gradually more people from not just one university will participate. Once we've established a network, we'll do something bigger in August! Please let me know!

Hello Khmer Wikipedia
This is a great thing you are all planning. Looking forward to seeing the results!
If I may make a request. I am looking for a couple of photos from Phnom Penh, as mentioned at
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Russavia/Required_photos#Phnom_Penh
Basically, I am looking for photos of the Russian embassy and the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Phnom Penh. Multiple photos would be great.
I believe the Soviet Union and/or Russia also had a consulate in Sihanoukville, which is now closed, but I would be interested in getting photos of that building too. Although photos of the consulate from that era would be fantastic! :)
Anyway, if anyone can help me with photos of anything Russian in Cambodia, that would be great.

On a side note, photos of the other embassies and diplomatic missions in Phnom Penh would certainly be of use to others.
I am also an admin and crat on Commons ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Russavia) so if you need anything from us for your project, feel free to drop me a line as well.
Cheers

=D

This is just a call to other Wikipedians in town who are interested to join. ;-)
