Hello everyone !
We did it ! In spite of complicated situations, we did it !
This is just a quick email to acknowledge the end of the contest itself
and discuss the next steps
*****
We are still sorting out images provided. It must be between 7800 to
8300 pictures overall (yes, I know, it is vague)
Link to all pictures :
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Africa_2…
We have a lot of pictures registered in the main category, but not
categorized per country.
And we also have a lot of pictures registered in a country, but not in
the main category.
So currently trying to sort that out...
If you know someone with bot running abilities, there are pending
requests there, please help :
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Bots/Work_requests#Wiki_Loves_Af…
*****
There is quite some work to do to better describe and categorize images
generally.
You may see a list of images without categories here :
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Africa_2021/Images_ch…
There are over 5500 images needing categories. Jacqueline is on the case
for smaller countries with no teams.
It would be very helpful that you actually look into your own country
category....

Quality
I would like to commend the work done by Adoscam, who already got
several images listed as quality images.
https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=19012285
You may also consider submitting the best images to promotion...
I would like as well to outline the quality of pictures submitted in
Cameroun by the team who following the Nos Jardins photographic
masterclass this year.
The picts are really really cool. Check it out :

Jury - Montage
The topic everyone is looking for...
If you want to get involved in the organisation of the global selection
(or even to lead it ! ) get in touch with Isla about that.
We are planning to run a webinar related to Montage and the set-up.
Expect it in 2 or 3 weeks. If you want to get involved in it, please say
so.

Country jury team
I need to know specifically which countries will run a selection process
AND need some volunteers to stand on their juries. I can find you
volunteers, but I need to know how many people I would be looking for.
So if you need help to find jury members, please contact me.
Cheers

Hello everyone,
Following the discussion on the Wiki Loves Africa Telegram Channel
(https://t.me/joinchat/Smc82PP53yscNUIs)
It has been decided to extend the duration of Wiki Loves Africa till end
of April.
So if you are late in starting, or late on closing, your team have
another 2 weeks to fit communication and/or activities.
However, please note the following
1) we will not announce that publicly until a couple of days before
April 15th. This was suggested by Summer and supported by others, to
avoid the effect of "Nice, I have more time, let's procrastinate more !"
2) the site notice banner will stop running on April 15th as planned, to
avoid user fatigue and respect the initial request made on the site
notice request dashboard. As far as I can tell, we will have very little
competition for the site notice early April, so the banner should be
largely visible between 1-15th. However, it will not operate any more
between 15th-30th.
Of course, we will continue mentions and promotion on the usual social
media handles.
Cheers
Flo
Dear All
[Excuse the cross posting]
This is a quick save the date notification for the upcoming webinar as part of Wiki Loves Africa.
Webinar topic: Make your images useful on Wikipedia!
Date: Saturday, 27th March
Time: 10am (UTC+1)
Link: to be shared on the Telegram, Twitter and Facebook page prior to the webinar.
The webinar will cover the many ways in which images can be seen by the Wikimedia community. It will cover the information to include when uploading images, how to use categories properly, what other elements can be added, and how to add to other images through contests such as WPWP and the ISA tool.
We look forward to seeing you there!
warmest
Isla

Hello everyone,
The number of images collected so far is significantly lower than last
year. We have been wondering why it would be. There are many possible
answers.
One point explored has been the number of views of the WLA landing page
This year,
- we changed the banner quite significantly in style (I hope you like
it... I can not enjoy it from France :))
- we collided with Wiki Loves Folklore the first two weeks for the use
of the site notice
- now, we are obviously sharing the banner space with Women Month banner
(this is the one I see full time :))
So we have been looking if this impacted the number of visitors to the
main page. And the results are interesting.
Guillaume provided those links, which I invite you to look at
----> Pages views of landing pages in 2021 :
https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=commons.wikimedia.org&platform=all…
<https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=commons.wikimedia.org&platform=all…>
----> Pages views of the same in 2020 :
https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=commons.wikimedia.org&platform=all…
<https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=commons.wikimedia.org&platform=all…>
Some conclusions
1) English landing page views are higher this year, though they have
rejoined the equivalent numbers to last year the past few days (roughly,
between 30000 to 50000 pages view per day)
2) French landing page views are lower this year (20000-25000 last year;
10000 this year) ----> we are working on that, but any help on social
media and in the French media would be helpful
3) Arabic landing page views are VERY MUCH lower this year (7000 last
year; basically 0 this year). Weird....
I checked with Romain if there was an issue with the arabic banner.
And the answer was... yes. Because when we launched... the arabic
landing page was not ready yet. So all arabic visitors were redirected
to the English page (might explain the increase of the English landing
page).
If you look carefully, you will observe a big drop in page views for the
past 3 days. Started March 1st...
For some reasons... Ciell dropped our banner diet to 50% (we were at
100% before that), supposingly per agreement with me.
Looks like age hit again, because I have no memory of ever agreeing to
that and can't find info. So I will talk to her and we'll get it back to
100% unless she has a serious argument. WLE and WLM are always at 100%...
Please note that the main page in arabic is not fully translated.

Please help
Still, I would like to point out that I have not seen a lot of social
media or press related to the contest in arabic. Can you
help promote the contest in arabic ?
Cheers
Flo
