Life isn't slow on a farm, but this list needs a kick.
To that end, I've started a project page on MediaWiki.org: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:WikiFarm
Have a look and see what needs to be filled out.
With that said, I really want to dig into MediaWiki's configuration system[1]. Putting the configuration in the DB (with a wiki column acting as the key so farming would be easier) really seems to be the right thing to do. Larger users (like Wikimedia) would want to use CDBS or something snappy like that, but I'd like to start out with a DB-backed config.
I haven't had time to really do anything with any of this, but I did want to check in with you all to see if there was any news.

Yeah, there's some config DB-related code in https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/74678/

w00t!
Really - as someone who considers a farm a better solution than the indefinite individual installations I'm presently faced with, I just want *a* method that I can think of as officially supported.

Hi Mark et al.,
I probably should have responded on the earlier thread - I didn't want to overwhelm the discussion. Anyway, I run the MediaWiki-based wiki farm Referata (referata.com), and I'm actually planning to release the software that powers it as open source in the next few months. It's composed of two main extensions: Site Settings and Wiki Garden; the latter requires the former. I don't mean to try to discourage any other attempts to create wiki farm functionality - and anyway, more alternatives are always better - but I wanted to note that plan.

I know I'm digging up an old thread, but I was curious if there were any updates on open sourcing your two extensions?

Hi Legoktm,
I'm glad you brought this up. No, I haven't released the extensions yet - it's been on my to-do list for a very long time, but it kept getting delayed by other stuff I was working on, the updating of my MediaWiki book being among the most recent. However, at the moment my major projects have mostly subsided, and releasing these two extensions is very high on my list of priorities. I hope to get it done... soon.

Great! Thanks. Is there a page where we can document such efforts so that people have pointers, beyong the manual page on wiki families?

Yes, [[wm:Project:WikiFarm]][1].

It seems I'm a little late to the party. As I mentioned in an earlier message, I was on vacation. I'm back now and in the near future, I'll try to address the problems that some of you highlighted with Orain's configuration (large configuration file, no way to configure on-wiki, too complicated, etc.). If you have any other suggestions, feel free to please create an issue or a pull request on one of our GitHub repositories ( https://github.com/Orain ), come chat with us in #orain on freenode, or reply to this list. :)
I think Orain's code should be a good base for other people who might want to set up their own wiki farm, but as I mentioned earlier, we launched only a month ago, so many improvements are still to come.

I know I can through this plugin to make a Wiki farm, which I saw on the site https://github.com/search?q=mediawiki&ref=cmdform. I am interested in the way in which made all of Wikipedia. How are they made all Wikipedia withoyt plugin for Wiki farm?

If you're interested in Wikimedia's configuration for their sites, it is at http://noc.wikimedia.org/.
How in one folder MediaWiki make more than one MediaWiki sites?

There are currently several ways to do that, and many of them are documented at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wiki_family.
The talk page there is a better place to seek the general kind of help you are looking for. If after you've tried a few of those methods and are still stuck, you could try asking a pointed question here.
