Hello everyone!
I hope you are aware that the Leadership Development Working Group[5] has
been working over the past few months to formulate and find ways to nurture
the leadership of our movement. The Leadership Development Working Group
(LDWG) is a group of Wikimedia volunteers representing different
communities, languages, roles, and experiences. We are pleased to inform
the community that our draft definition of leadership is now available for
community feedback. This first draft definition of leadership was written
after months of discussion, learning, and sharing from our community
perspective. The Wikimedia Movement, which is by nature diverse and
distinctive in its own way, is expressly addressed by this definition.
Please consider going through the definition and letting us know what you
think by *October 6, 20**22.* The draft definition includes a general
definition of leadership and subcategories that elaborate on the actions,
qualities, and outcomes of good leadership.
There are many places where you can express your ideas, suggestions, and
comments, such as the meta talk page[2], the feedback form[3], and Movement
Strategy Forum Post[4]. You can also directly mail us at
leadershipworkinggroup(a)wikimedia.org.
You can check if the general definition, and the subcategories align with
your idea of leadership in the movement. You can also try finding the gaps,
maybe some qualities of a leader or anything else are missing in the draft
definition or you can check if the definition applies to all cultural,
linguistic, community or other contexts of the movement and share your
thoughts with us.
Together, let's celebrate the movement's diverse and distinctive
leadership!

The purpose of the community call is to provide a space for volunteers to
meet the Community Development team. The five-person Community Development
team is responsible for developing accessible opportunities for volunteers
to grow critical capacities and leadership skills for movement
sustainability and growth. The community call is also a shared space for
all volunteers to hear or speak about projects related to capacity building
& leadership development in the Wikimedia community.

Some may be asking, what is capacity building and why is the Community
Development team supporting this work?
What is capacity building? Capacity building is any activity aimed at
developing a skill or capability in others; it can take many forms, ranging
from formal training through online self-study courses to individual
mentorship.

movement-wide capacity building as a necessity to achieve our strategic
commitment to Knowledge Equity. Capacity building has the ability to
encourage diversity, redistribute and share resources, welcome newcomers
and grow communities.
Community Development is launching this series to ensure we can hear
directly from volunteers who are interested in or who already are leading
capacity building work in their communities. This is one one way we plan to
create a space for direct conversations with volunteers about the different
contexts, challenges, and opportunities in capacity building across the
movement.
How do our projects relate to capacity building and leadership development?
Our team's portfolio is a curation of online and offline learning programs
and resources that aim to enable skill development and resilience in the
movement.

Hello to everyone subscribed to the spcom ("sister projects committee")
list,
with the impending mailman upgrade <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Mailman3_migration>, as list
administrator, I'd like to propose archiving this list.
The last discussions about the proposed SPCom happened here in 2013, since
then the list has been dead with the exception of some mass mails some
months ago.
SPCom is, in my mind, still a good idea, but the idea never took off and
this mailing list therefore seems unnecessary to keep around.
If there are no objections to this, I will request the mailing list admins
to archive the list instead of upgrading it. But if you have objections and
want to revive the list (and the SPCom proposals), please say so.

Applications for the WikiLearn: Online learning pilot

officially closed. Applicants will receive acceptance emails by January 18,
2021 with onboarding information. The launch date for the Online learning
pilot is February 1, 2021. For those who were not able to apply or were not
selected this time for an online learning pilot, you will still be able to
access all curriculum outlines and knowledge after the pilot has been
completed.
