context: @Kethryvis used to work in my team long long ago as a contractor. Master of Anthropology was done in online communities (she was writing it while she was here but it's focused on livejournal, obviously Wikipedia worked it's way in there as an example ... a lot. Geoff Brigham even sat on her panel for it). Currently an community manager at a startup, shockingly :)
