That is indeed such a cool project, when I first heard about it I thought it would be one of those 1 time "oh cool" things I learn... It seems to keep coming up though...
Some social would be nice but I assume you were thinking of linking to the WP article? (The quote you gave was with the reuters link but now that I see it's a quote from the article maybe you just copied with the reference...)
Perhaps:
DYK: In 2015 the Syrian Civil War caused the first withdrawal from the Svalbard Seed Vault to restock @ICARDA_CGIAR <link>
i had to use "caused" to get the twitter length right and still keep DYK which I really like... If you don't use that though could switch back to promoted.
@SvalbardVault exists on Twitter but can't tell if official so not sure if we should link (also never actually tweeted)

Hey all,
Perhaps some filler social of this article which is (at least tenuous) in the news right now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svalbard_Global_Seed_Vault
"The Syrian Civil War prompted the first withdrawal in 2015 to restock the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas." http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/09/21/us-mideast-crisis-seeds-idUKKCN0RL1...
Plus it's a supercool article on a supercool project. :)
