Hi, this is a request to sync with this Outreachy campaign on March 1st.
Wikimedia is participating, and we are also interested in getting attention
from great prospective candidates.

Dear Outreachy community,
We have opened applications for the new round of the program and would love
your help spreading the word. Please send the information to your
university department or community group, share it on social networks, or
encourage someone you know to apply. We have a sample e-mail and sample
social network updates you can use available at
https://wiki.gnome.org/Outreachy/2016/MayAugust/SpreadTheWord
Please join us for Twitter chats with #OutreachyChat hashtag at 4pm UTC on
March 1 (11am EST) or at 2am UTC on March 2 (9pm EST on March 1). The goal
of the chats is to increase the visibility of this opportunity and
individual project ideas, and to encourage more people to apply. We will
ask mentors to introduce their organizations and project ideas and past
interns to share their advice and experience. Closer to the chat date, I
will share with you the questions we'll have.
Thanks!
Marina

Hi all,
With February 29 coming up it provides an opportunity to share some unusual
articles.
To start the ball rolling.. this one may be of interest:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Milne_Wilson
To the best of my knowledge he is the only notable person to both be born,
and have died, on 29 February.
Any other good ones?

Hi
A few hours ago author and philosopher Umberto Eco passed away. AFAIK he
was a permanent viewer, critic and an public enthusiast of Wikipedia, and
wrote some articles related to the encyclopedia. I think it was valuable
that a thinker of its importance pointed at least since 2008 the importance
of Wikipedia in the contemporary world.
Can we post something about him in the social networks?
Thanks,

I thought this a good commentary from John Oliver on the pitfalls of
following trends blindly and so wanted to share ;) For the record I do not
thing we've done any of this and trust Jeff to not even really think about
doing so just one of those things to be mindful/laugh about.
