Alternatively, we can add the namespaces to $wgExtraNamespaces, which can be (ab)used to rename core's namespaces (used in zh* wikis), run scripts, let it ride train, and make sure it works properly, but that's probably more time consuming than simply backporting.

Absent further comments, I have removed my own -2 on that patch and will let it ride with the MediaWiki Train. We can take care of running the scripts later once that patch arrives to our vec.* wikis. I'll probably file a task to remember asking to run them once I know the wmf branch the patch will be on.
