Subject: Your Wikimania 2012 Presentation Submission
Dear Lilaroja,
Thank you very much for submitting a presentation proposal for Wikimania
2012, to be held July 12-15 in Washington, DC. We received more than 400
proposals this year, and our team carefully evaluated each submission for
completeness, relevance to the conference themes, requested time, and
anticipated interest by participants.
Unfortunately the number of great submissions exceeds the number of spots
available in the agenda, but your submission is close to the cut-off. We
have put your submission, Wikipedia & Research: A love–hate relationship
(Submission #166), on a waitlist. There are no guarantees, but some
accepted presenters may decide they cannot attend, or otherwise some space
might open up for your submission.
If your presentation is not included in the main program, we hope you will
join the unconference day on Sunday where you will be able to propose a
presentation or participate in a session on your topic. We may also have
lightning talk opportunities during the conference.
To help us to plan the program and consider your submission, we would like
you to confirm whether or not you will be attending Wikimania 2012. Please
fill in the form at the link below by April 30, 2012 to confirm your
attendance:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFlFbGEyNHBYcmppa0d5Z3…
Please note that if you have made multiple submissions, you must fill in
the form for each submission. Any forms that have not been completed by
April 30 will be removed from consideration for the final program.
Thank you for your submission and for your participation in the Wikimania
2012 program selection process!
Best regards,
Wikimania 2012 Program Committee

Hey folks,
A new proposal has been posted:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:The_motivational_arc_of_massive_vir…
They are using surveys to study the changing motivations of Wikipedians
over their wiki-career. They are hoping to send out 3,600 recruitment
messages to user talk pages since they need 60x3=180 responses and expect a
5-10% response rate. I'm currently trying to talk them down to a more
reasonable number.
I'm also working on them to produce something convincing us of the value of
their work since there have been ~eleventy billion surveys of Wikipedians
about their motivations.
Most importantly, they want us to sign off on their proposal before they
acquire approval from their own IRB. I think this makes sense, but I
wanted to run it past you guys.
Thanks,
-Aaron
