Hola!
I hope that you are fine.
I did my homework, so here you have a suggestion of template for the Directory of research projects (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template_for_research_projects), issue to be discussed at out next chat meeting (Feb 25).
However, to me it remains several aspects to be defined before hands. That is:
* The scope of the Research Projects directory: Now the scope is defined as: "This is the canonical directory of Wikimedia research projects that are underway or have recently been completed. Research projects are documented on many different wikis, but should all be findable through this page. To qualify for inclusion in this list, a project should be significant in scope and ethical in nature (according to the guidelines [to be] developed by the Research Committee)." It remains still the need to define the goals of the Research Project Directory and why it makes sense to create it (i.e the problematics linked to research projects and how this research project directory can help to overcome them, etc).
* The need to define the criteria for inclusion (the above mentioned guidelines) and who or with which process a research project might pass the "test" of fullfilling the guidelines.
"Chat" you on Friday! Mayo

Subject: [RCom-l] The Subject Recruitment Approvals Group moved to meta
Hey folks,
As part of my work in the Subject Recruitment Area of Interest, I've converted the enwp version of the Subject Recruitment Approvals Group to meta and dropped the language about the SubjectRecruitmentBot.
See the page here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Subject_Recruitment_Approvals_Group
I'd like to talk about this approach to managing recruitment request to Wikimedia project users at our next meeting so please have a look before then.
Thanks,
-Aaron
Dear all,
I received an expression of interest from the chairs of WebSci '11 (an ACM conference held in Koblenz on June 14-17, 2011 [1]) as a possible venue to host an RCom-sponsored panel. They would be happy to invite us to discuss major research challenges that Wikipedia is facing after its 10th anniversary. I think this would make a great opportunity to reach out to a broader research community than WikiSym/Wikimania and to engage a discussion on areas the committee is specifically interested in prioritising.
The organisers asked me to come back to them shortly with an overview of possible topics for the panel: your input on this is very welcome. Please let me know if you would be interested in attending, so I can start putting together a proposal. If we get the green light we can then discuss the actual contents during the next RCom meeting.
Best,
Dario

Hello research committee members,
I am adding the following WMF staff/contractors with research
connections to the list so they can join relevant discussions:
Mani Pande, researcher with the Global Development department (see her
mobile research at http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mobile ; she's
currently working on the design of a new editor survey)
Rob Lanphier, Engineering Program Manager for general engineering
projects, his portfolio includes analytics and he's been organizing a
revamp of our analytics infrastructure (pageview logs etc.)
Zack Exley, Chief Community Officer. His department organizes both
quantitative and qualitative research projects regarding our
community.
Diederik van Liere, currently on contract for the editor trends study
( http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Editor_Trends_Study ) which will
soon be published.
Mani/Rob/Zack/Diederik, please watch the list for announcements of
RCOM meetings in case you'd like to join them.
All best,
Erik

All,
the Expert Barrier survey is ready to run. We took into account most of the suggestions we received during the pilot phase and we are planning to release the survey by Wednesday morning London time, in time for the Imperial College Recruitment Drive [1]. Here is a link to a live preview:
http://nitens.org/ls/?sid=21693
(some blocks of questions are hidden depending on how participants answer in the first screen when asked whether they ever contributed to WP)
If you have a moment to give it a try, comments are welcome by Tuesday night PST.
Best,
Dario, Giota and Daniel

Dear all,
I'd like to check your availability for the 3rd RCom Meeting. I propose we hold it later this month: either during the last week of February or the first of March. As usual, I set up a doodle with a number of options that should work well both for Europe and the US: please fill in your preferences so we can settle on a date as soon as possible (for the record, the 1st and 2nd meeting took place on a Saturday at 5pm UTC).

Suggestions for the agenda are also welcome, I started a draft on this EtherPad:

Giota, Daniel and myself will report on the Expert Barriers Survey [1] (the pilot ran between December and January and we are planning the official launch of the survey this week – you can preview it here [2] ) I would also like to ask Aaron as well as those involved in the Subject Recruitment Initiative to share before the meeting any materials they would like to discuss (the same applies to the OA policy project). I am also planning to briefly discuss general issues such as the use and scope of the Research Project directory [3] and the organization of an RCom panel at a forthcoming social computing conference, as per my previous mail.
I look forward to seeing you all!
Best,
Dario
