Hi Bináris, Thank you for your reply. I’m aware that the messages are in general distributed via Translatewiki (I’m a contributor there and do actively translate exactly these messages). However, in some cases localized messages are still a part of the script in the pywikipedia distribution. For example when doing replace.py -fix:HTML -page:Korisnik:Edinwiki/test the summary is in Serbian (Cyrillic) which is obviously not taken from the Translatewiki project (see result here in last edit: http://bs.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Korisnik:Edinwiki/test <http://bs.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Korisnik:Edinwiki/test&action=his tory> &action=history). This is because the dictionary ‘msg’ does not have an item of the corresponding language (bs) and uses the priorities as defined in the ‘pywikibot\18n.py’ file. This priority listing by the way does not contain the Bosnian language as a separate if-statement. The language code is dubbed as Serbocroatian and is specified as follows: #Serbocroatian if code in ['bs', 'hr', 'sh',]: return ['sh', 'hr', 'bs', 'sr', 'sr-el'] The languages are taken in order as specified here. So basically if I’m working on the Bosnian Wikipedia (which I do), then even if the ‘bs’ language code is defined as a message, I will still first get the localized version of language codes ‘sh’ and ’hr’ (if also defined). So in the case of fixing of HTML as shown earlier, since only the ‘sr’-msg is defined it will take the message as defined there. The basic fix is to add the translated string into fixes.py and to add the following peace of code into i18n.py: #Bosnian if code == 'bs': return ['bs', 'sh', 'hr'] Concerning the use of fixes.py for issues that are only of local level, I agree that this should only be used for wikiwide importance but this can perhaps also be a point of discussion. The reason that I mentioned this is that there exist other language specific fixes (as you mentioned yourself ‘ar’ and ‘de’). But besides fixes.py and the translations of the corresponding scripts I was also looking to fix some issues of which I already mentioned Commonscat.py. This script in particular uses a list of templates as defined on each wiki locally. The dict does not include the relevant information about the Bosnian commonscat template(s). There is much more that I could discuss here which I deliberately chose not to, since the response would get too long (it already is). From the pure development side, there is some basic functionality which is only implemented in certain scripts (replace.py) which is not available in others (add_text.py) which would certainly be useful. One example is the ‘requiretitle’ attribute. Everything that I discussed so far are only the things that have bugged me personally. Since this commit access is about the development and further maintenance of the project, I’m of course willing to contribute to other problems that are present as well. Personally, I oppose using fixes.py for every fix of national interest (including de and ar). Fixes.py should be used only if the fix has wikiwide inportance (such as wikisyntax) or it is used by quite a number of bot owners. Otherwise user-fixes.py is the right place for them. Currently I’m an administrator on the Bosnian Wikipedia (Edinwiki) and heavily working with pywikipediabot. During my work with pywikipediabot I localized a bunch of messages (i18n) for personal use which I would like to commit to the SVN repository. Furthermore, I noticed a few bugs in multiple scripts of which commonscat.py is one. There are a few pages on which the script (commonscat.py) breaks (i.e. http://bs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_M1911) . Besides these bugs there are some conventions on the Bosnian Wikipedia that we would also like to see implemented in the fixes.py script. For example, the naming of reference sections which is not always done consistently by the users. These are the major things that I could work on. However, there are also other both minor and major changes that I would like to suggest, which I could communicate through the mailing list on a later moment. Needless to say I hope, but I’m familiar with Python. If you need more information or if there are additional requirements then let me know.
