This seemed like a reasonable (and fast) enough request for me, so I made a patch. Does anyone have any good reason that the feature which, frankly, is broken on private sites, should be enabled there?
IIRC Chrome users cannot use the feature at all, Firefox users are hit or miss.
Plus, most of those private wikis aren't *viewed* by anyone, they're just communities of editors who discuss issues in private.
Thoughts?

No opinion on whether private WMF wikis need Media Viewer (this list might not be the best place to ask), but there should at least be a clear, reproducible description of the problem, so that it can be fixed eventually. Even if WMF wikis don't use images prominently, we shouldn't assume that no MediaWiki installation which uses image_auth.php ever does.

Princeton has some such wikis with a rather big amount of images, IIRC. http://qed.princeton.edu/main/Special:Statistics

Can we hold off on any immediate action until we have had a chance to review this with people impacted by this proposed change?
