Hi,
I tried to add a link to our corporate intranet portal in the sidebar of mediawiki as described in the manual.
I edit the mediawiki:sidebar page and add a line
** http://www.example.com \ Portal to the page.
After saving the page I do not see the Portal link in the sidebar.
If I add a header like:
* Imprortant links
It is visible in the sidebar after saving the page.
We are also looking for solutions to add more content to the sidebar, like search boxes for our enterprise search, google search and corporate people search engines.
Any suggestions?

Good afternoon,
I help with collecting articles for the Zpravodaj journal of the Czech
TeXists (http://bulletin.cstug.cz/). Would it be interesting for you to
prepare an English article on MediaWiki and its relation to TeX (generally
speaking, TeX-related staff is welcome) and let us publish it in this
journal? Please let us know what you think about this idea.
We look forward hearing from you.

Hi all,
This list seems to have become idle. Have people stopped using MediaWiki in
enterprises? :-)
I've noticed that a lot of work has been done recently on an
"industrialization guide":
http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Manual:Industrialization_guide
I think pages like this are really useful. Over the past few years I've
discovered extensions in a piecemeal fashion.... stumbling across LDAP
Authentication or SimpleSecurity or Semantic Mediawiki/Forms, and wishing I
had found them sooner. To have a single page targeted at enterprise use
definitely makes things easier. However, I think we can go one better.....
Why not a MediaWiki package/distribution targeted at enterprise use? It
would include:
* MediaWiki
* Extensions that are useful for enterprise use
* A default configuration suitable for enterprise use
If this is already being done please point me in that direction.
Dave.
To whom it may concern,
As the IT Manager of the Canadian Council on Learning I was approached
by a Director in our Organization interested in use a Wiki for the
folowing project (please see his email below).
He was interested in http://wikigender.org/ that seemed to layout his
mental picture for his project. If possible I would like to discuss Wiki
with someone who has used it, implemented and maintained in an effort to
understand all that is involve with Wiki and what we can expect to gain
from it.

________________________________
Thanks again for this, Jeremie. At this moment, we are still just
exploring the feasibility and whether a Wiki on e-learning would be a
good vehicle to disseminate and, most importantly, to engage
stakeholders and the users community in 'connecting' on this topic. One
of the recommendations of the E-Learning (to be released probably before
the summer) is to generate a momentum on e-learning in Canada, sharing
of resources (including creating a clearing house on e-learning research
and links). From what I can see, it occurred to me that a wiki may be a
good way to start addressing such recommendation. In regards to
populating the wiki, we may be able to ask our colleagues in (Montreal)
to assist us in identifying relevant materials that the wiki could have
before we lunch it publically.
So, I guess, at this moment, I am interested in finding out the cost
implications from a system point of view (eg - is there a software or
license costs ? server ? etc). Also, from what I heard, there are public
wikis and closed wikis where materials are being posted and reviewed by
authorized assess only. Some organizations have both. I can also talk to
as well to find out how successful those wikis are from a Communication
point of view.
So, overall, my 'vision' is that CCL could be the 'catalyst' to get it
started but then we will need to find out how could maintain it later
once it is up and running (we may ask for example).
Thanks in advance
I've setup a Kerberos/OpenLDAP SSO solution for my group. I'm trying to get
mediawiki to authenticate against the kerberos server and use LDAP to get
simple user information (like their name and maybe email address). My goal
is to not allow new user accounts to be created or anonymous edits and views
on the wiki. I have mod_auth_kerb setup and working correctly. I'm getting
an error message from mediawiki that I can't figure out. Here is the
message:

I'm running the latest packaged Apache2 and PHP on a Ubuntu 8.04 server. I'm
using the latest mediawiki (1.13.3) and Ldap_Authentication extension 1.2a.
Let me know if I can provide any other info to help diagnose this error. I
really appreciate the work you've done on the extension and the support!
Thanks, Ken

Hello all,
I have been charged with looking into access control implementations for
media wiki and was directed to this list by some folks on IRC. Basically
our company has a small internal wiki that is fractured by department we
want to roll it out company wide but in order to do that we will need to
implement access control (possibly linked to LDAP). Does such an
extension already exist for media wiki? Is there something similar being
developed? Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thank you for your time,
Sergei
Hello, Does your company have between 10 and 250 employees and is using a
Wiki? As part completing my Masters of Knowledge Management I
am looking for companies who have implemented a corporate Wiki
(successfully or not) that would like to take part in an exploratory
study as the basis of my research thesis. If you are interested I
would appreciate hearing from you. Your company should
preferably be in Melbourne, Australia, however if you are in Sydney, Perth
or Adelaide and feel your experiences could help others I would be
willing to travel.
The study focuses on Australian cultural and strategic influences on
the implementation of Wikis in corporate environments and would
involve
a half hour group interview with two or three users. This
would probably take place in the coming
weeks. It is a closed study so the results would undergo ethics
testing to ensure privacy is preserved and I am happy to discuss any
concerns you may have in
this area. As such, if you are interested, I would appreciate you
contacting me emailing me
(sjfrenc(a)gmail.com), or calling on 0411 797-781 (Australia).
Hopefully your contributions will aid others trying to use this
powerful technology in the future. I have facilitated a successful
implementation of a Confluence Wiki site over the past 12 months and
would be happy to impart my knowledge as part of the process.
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards,

All:
Has anyone implemented any usage reporting systems? Daily/weekly/
monthly periodic analysis?
- Something to track daily page creations / changes counts.
- List new users
- Maybe also fetch and deliver excerpts from housekeeping special:pages
like:
Special:Recentchanges
Special:Newpages
Special:Lonelypages - Pages with no link to them, orpaned
Special:Deadendpages - Pages that have no external links
Special:Uncategorizedpages - Pages lacking a category
Special:Wantedpages
Special:BrokenRedirects
Special:Wantedcategories
Dead End Pages ...
A lot of this could be gleaned from the xml.php API system -- a small PHP script using xml_*()
functions could parse it out into human readable pages.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
