Hi all,
For those who were able to come to Boulder, Colorado for the annual State of the Map US conference this past weekend—thanks and I hope that you enjoyed the Colorado weather and hospitality!
It was a really nice program https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/ and it was especially cool to see more and more of the projects that the community has been chatting about and working on in their spare time finally come to life and are in production!
All the talks on Friday and Saturday were videotaped https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqjPa29lMiE2k2Sp5L5rb6ntduG9dt0te, and you can see lots of snapshots https://www.flickr.com/search/?user_id=95444237%40N08&sort=date-posted-desc&safe_search=1&view_all=1&tags= of folks at Folsom Field and a few of the evening socials.
Cheers,
Deb

Wow—there are so many videos!
Deb, can you recommend a few things that you really enjoyed seeing and/or that you didn't get to see but that looked really good?
Thanks!

There were lots of really good talks at SotMUS, but since there were two tracks, I couldn't attend all of them (dang it!).
Here's some quick links to presentations that I attended and really liked—several have a local Colorado perspective or are highlighting work done by current and former co-workers:
** Keynote by Emily Jacobi* (Digital Democracy): touching on real world events and how it affects our community "the urgency of now" video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJlT8li_tRw / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/saturday-keynote-emily-jacobi.html
* *Machine Learning to assist with making great maps* (Facebook) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8ckY6QN5jI / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/machine-learning-to-assist-in-map-making.html
* *Mapping Sidewalks for Pedestrian routing* (Trimet) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w64pLD_bgKk / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/mapping-sidewalks-for-pedestrian-routing.html
* *Bicycle Network Analysis* - helping the majority of 'interested but concerned' cyclists to be safer (People for Bikes) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgyynQDPQnQ / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/bicycle-network-analysis.html
* *Planimetrics import for Denver Metro area* - over 600K building rooftops are ready (DRCOG) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0hOqAhEpL4 / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/planimetrics-import.html
* *Data Usage in Colorado* - app challenge to make public data more useful (Go Code Colorado) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVxnrDWhADw / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/go-code-colorado-app-challenge.html
* *Overview of vector tiles* - pros and cons of usage (Paul Norman) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=savQWL0kq_g / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/vector-tiles.html
* *Linear (location) referencing of OpenStreetMap* road data (Mapzen) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaiC35XLGjI / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/stable-linear-referencing-system.html
* *What's up with ASTER* (terra data collected from satellites) (USGS) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0w3n2gn5WQ / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/whatsup-with-aster.html
* *Wikiwar Historical Mapping Adventures* - cool ways to use OSM data in historical war gaming (Open Historical Maps) video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on5UtbJWH4c / summary https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/wikiwar-historical-mapping.html
There are, of course, many more presentations https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqjPa29lMiE2k2Sp5L5rb6ntduG9dt0te to watch (including the keynote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABb-J8ejiwU by Astronaut Christopher Loria; the complete program https://2017.stateofthemap.us/program/ is a good way to feed your appetite on all things OpenStreetMap that were discussed.
Here's the group photo https://www.flickr.com/photos/openstreetmapus/37129919014/ and we're waiting on the satellite selfie https://twitter.com/dtankersley/status/921755360372850689 to be available soon of the over 500 people that were in attendance!
