During his three Olympic seasons, Yuzuru Hanyu (pictured), a Japanese figure skater, won two gold medals in the men's singles event, one each in 2014 and 2018. He also placed fourth in 2022. In 2014, at the age of 19, he became the first Asian men's singles skater to win an Olympic gold medal, and the youngest male skater to win the title since American Dick Button did in 1948. In 2018, Hanyu became the first male singles skater in 66 years to win gold medals in consecutive Winter Olympics since Button, who also won in 1952. Hanyu received the People's Honour Award from the Prime Minister of Japan as well as two Medals of Honor with Purple Ribbon. He also received the Kikuchi Kan Prize for his accomplishments, including his back-to-back Olympic titles. Two monuments in memory of his Olympic wins were erected at the International Center Station in Sendai, his hometown. He was also listed in ESPN's World Fame 100 and The Dominant 20, as well as Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia for his success in 2018.
