Hi,
After a longer hiatus, the latest report on the activities of
Wikimedia Hungary has been published on Meta at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_chapters/Reports/Wikim%C3%A9dia_Ma….
For your convenience, it is reproduced below.
Best regards,
Bence Damokos,
Wikimedia Hungary
==Meetings==
===WikiCamp===
Between 5 and 8 August we organized a camp[1] for Wikipedians in
Nagykanizsa, a small town in southwestern Hungary. The four day
meeting saw about sixteen participants visiting nearby nature parks,
reserves and towns and also playing Wikipedia quizzes and video clips,
as well as listening to lectures on Wikipedia and the chapters.
The camp was the first multi-day Wikimedia event to take place in
Hungary, supplementing a long tradition of at least quarterly
Wikipedia meetups[2] in different parts of the country.
Given the positive feedback, if there is interest from the community
to organize a WikiCamp 2011, we plan to support it as well.
===Conference organization===
On 28 August there was a meeting about the ongoing organization of a
Wikipedia conference to be held on the 15th of January 2011 aimed at
the educational sector.
==Book contest==
We started a contest[3] on the Hungarian Wikipedia with the aim to
create community books from the topic of the encyclopedia. We hope
that the outcome can serve as a good step to identify featureable
topic categories. The winners will get their entries in the form of a
PediaPress book and Wikimedia Hungary will use the best books in its
regular activities in promoting and showcasing Wikipedia.
To help the contest we created a tutorial video[4] about the book
creation tool, and the corresponding help page[5] has also been
updated.
==Grants==
===Council of Hungarian Internet Providers===
The Hungarian Council of Hungarian Internet Providers has provided
Wikimedia Hungary with a HUF 4.7 million ($ 21 300) grant to set up
and maintain a server. We are in the process of obtaining quotes for
this server that would serve as a mini toolserver (running resource
intensive analytics programs, such as WikiTrust; test environments for
MediaWiki extensions; bots and user scripts; and generally being
available to the local user and research community and serving the
chapter’s general needs for a server.)
===Wikimedia Foundation grants===
The five grant submissions of Wikimedia Hungary for the fiscal year
2010-2011 have all been approved and the grant has now been
transferred into our accounts.
Our aim is to buy promotional supplies, projecting equipment, organize
a conference on the 10th anniversary of Wikipedia, run a number of
photo contests, and to produce a number of tutorial videos for
Wikipedia. You can read about the individual grants in detail on
Meta-Wiki.[6]
The total value of the grants is $6250 – we appreciate the support of
the Wikimedia Foundation.
===National Civil Fund===
Our grant application to the National Civil Fund to help provide
scholarships for Wikimania has succeeded and we have won HUF 248 000
($1100) out of the requested HUF 330 000. Unfortunately, the news came
after the event and we were unable to utilize it to its potential. We
estimate that the total amount we can spend from this grant (and
reimburse to the participants of Wikimania) will be about HUF 70 000.
On a brighter note, we received HUF 200 000 ($900) from the National
Civil Fund to cover some of our administrative and operating expenses.
==Media==
Our WikiCamp event was featured in Kanizsa TV[6], the local TV of
Nagykanizsa and our president gave an interview emphasizing the
importance of face-to-face meetings. The camp was also featured in the
Wikimedia Foundation blog.[7]
===Social Media===
You can now find us on Twitter(and occasionally on Identi.ca) at
@WikimediaHU[8], as well as Facebook[9]. We also maintain the Facebook
page for the Hungarian Wikipedia[10] and have a blog.[11]
==GLAM-relations==
We have established contact with a group of librarians who want to
start an initiative to systematically improve Wikipedia content on the
topics they find important. A tentative meeting has been scheduled
with them for the end of September.

Projects
=========
« Colloquium » 2010
--------------------
A page on the wiki has been created to let everyone shares her thoughts
on what the program should be for this event. A specific mailing list
has also been created.
Museum de Toulouse
-------------------
WMFR is actively working on this partnership. WMFR will work with the
Museum to take pictures of paleographic objects and put them online on
Commons (http://snipurl.com/10tr9w).
University projects
--------------------
WMFR has been working with the University of Lille to let students
validate credits by editing Wikipedia articles. This workshop started
in february and ended in April.
This projects in Lille is similar to the one that has been done with the
Plume! (http://www.plume.info) association in Toulouse (see the page on
the french Wikipedia: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Wikipeplum)
News from the Wikimedia projects
=================================
Wikisource: partnership with the French National Library (BnF)
---------------------------------------------------------------
The partnership has been officially announced on April 7th (read the
press release - http://snipurl.com/10tra4). Wikisource contributors are
working on 1400 books that the BnF sent to them.

Wikisource: Partnership with the French National Library (BnF)
---------------------------------------------------------------
After the partnership has been officially announced in April, the first
books are now getting published on Wikisource.
Wikimedia Commons: projects with the Museum of Toulouse
--------------------------------------------------------
The Museum of Toulouse wants us to wait for the local event of the city
of Toulouse (la Novela - http://novela.toulouse.fr) to be launched in
october 2010 before we publish the first pictures on Wikimedia Commons.
The details of the partnership are still being actively discussed. We
hope that our careful approach for this first project will help build
new ones with the Museum in the next coming years.
New from the regional groups
=============================
Toulouse
---------
The Wikipeplum project (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Wikipeplum)
is going on okay. With the help of local Wikipedians and members of the
Plume! association, PhD students contribute to Wikipedia on topics
related to their PhD (and others if they want.) AFter more than 400
contributions in a few weeks, some students have already been diagnosed
as "wikipediholic".
General activity
=================
Night of the Museum (May 15th)
-------------------------------
Five members of the regional NCO group (Brittany) have been taking
photographs during the [European Long Night of Museums]. See some of
their photographs in the [dedicated category on Commons].

Conferences et manifestations
------------------------------
- May 15th-16th : NCO members participated to the Rencontres Bretonnes
du Logiciel Libre (http://www.rbll.info).
- May 28th: Bapti animated a workshop on Wikipedia in Toulouse, together
with the local Linux User Group (Toulibre - http://www.toulibre.org).
Meeting of WMFR's board
------------------------
WMFR's board spent two days in Paris to work. The contract with Bastien
Guerry, our first employee, was signed after three months and a half of
probing period.
Groups activity
================
"Photo" group: the biggest jump in the world
---------------------------------------------
Thesupermat took pictures of Taïg Khris for his new worl record of the
highest jump. Pictures where immediately published on [Commons], and an
article on [lepost.fr] and on [our blog] followed, a nice example of a
quick Wikimedia-Project/WMFR/press reactivity.

Fundraising group
------------------
After lengthy discussions on the fundraising mailing list, the donation
page of WMFR website has been improved: we now collect more rigorously
details of people donating to WMFR; we also keep a [public history of
donations (http://dons.wikimedia.fr/journal.php) for donors who accept
to appear online.
Internal communication group
-----------------------------
On May 7th, we held on IRL meeting two try to sort out internal
communication issues -- i.e. make sure everyone knows the tools, use
them efficiently, feel confident in communicating with the board and the
rest of the association.
We also had an IRC meeting during which we skimmed through the "ideas
box" -- a webpage on the internal wiki collecting ideas posted by the
members). The goal was to discuss/rework ideas and restate them in a
more "activable" form so that those bottom-up suggestions come closer to
something that the board can actually take a decision on, and activate.

There is on ongoing [debate] on how to help the french Wikiversity and
the french Wikibooks projects better thrive by avoiding any overlap in
goals and content.

GLAM-WIKI event: December 3rd-4th at the National assembly, Paris
------------------------------------------------------------------
We now have a date and a location for our GLAM-WIKI event: it will
happen on the *3rd and 4th of december* at the *National assembly*
(Victor Hugo's room). The program is still under heavy construction.
We also need to find a catchy name for this event (as "GLAM" doesn't
give any clue of what it's all about in French.)
Projects with the City of Toulouse
-----------------------------------
Bastien went to Toulouse and attended several meeting with officials of
Toulouse. The first one with the Archives of Toulouse: they are willing
to publish some of their pictures from the [Eugène Trutat] archives on
Commons. The other one with the Museum of Toulouse, where things are
going quite smoothly for the current project. The last meeting with the
administration of Toulouse: all participants to the [Novela] event in
october (including universities, local associations, companies, etc.)
where meeting eachothers. Bastien and Adrienne presented Wikimedia
France's mission and the ongoing projects with the Museum and the
Archives.

Welcome to Elisabeth Coye
--------------------------
June 16th, Florence announced that Elisabeth Coye, who has been of vital
help for processing all the 2009 donations, joined the assocation. As
Elisabeth might progressively be involved in more tasks for the
fundraising, she wanted to know more about the association itself and to
be part of it. Welcome Elisabeth!

A new textbooks publisher ignores copyright
--------------------------------------------
lelivrescolaire.fr (http://lelivrescolaire.fr) is a new textbooks
publisher who reused many pictures from Wikimedia Commons for its
paper-based and online manuals. This is quite an original move in this
market and WMFR heavily encourages this publisher to explore this
possibility further. But this publisher gave the wrong credit for the
pictures, only mentionning (c) Wikimedia...

This is the chapters report for Wikimedia Nederland, May - July 201. I
apologize for the delays and large time span. If you have any questions,
please approach us directly.
Wiki loves Bieb
Wiki loves Bieb is a cooperation project ongoing with libraries in southern
Zeeland. Amongst others, the booklet "Wikipedia i skolan" by Lennart
Guldbrandsson has been translated from Swedish to Dutch and a Brochure has
been drafted for cultural institutions. The first results are currently
shaping: a cooperation project with amongst others the muZEEum on the river
Schelde.

Wiki loves Monuments
*Wiki loves Monuments* is a photo scavenger hunt contest running from
September 1 - 30. The 60.000 national monuments in the Netherlands are the
subject for these photos. Prizes (including an iPad and Android) will be
awarded for the best photos and the highest number of photos. A special,
simplified, upload form on Wikimedia Commons has been prepared to make
uploading through Wikimedia Commons possible this year. The main prizes are
an iPad and Android smartphone.

Tropenmuseum
The Tropenmuseum has once again released a number of images under a free
license. This time over 6000 images from 3D objects in the museum, made by
musum employees. Some more information on:

General Assemblee
In June the second General Assemblee of the year was held. Important topics
on the agenda were the professionalization, an updated 2010 budget and how
to support the community health.
Professionalization process
Wikimedia Nederland has filed a grant request with the Wikimedia Foundation
for 2010-2012 regarding professionalization, as an investment into the
future. We feel that there are opportunities for sustainable growth with the
right support. The grant has been partially awarded. You can find the
original application at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:WM_NL/Professionalization .
Communication
A new design has been made for the chapter website, to replace the current
Wiki layout for "outsiders". The wiki will remain, less visibly, available
to our community members of course. Also the annual report for 2009 has been
layouted properly now and will be printed for all members. The pdf will
become available on our website. A constant overview of the media attention
for Wikipedia / Wikimedia in the Netherlands can be found on
http://nl.wikimedia.org/wiki/Media-aandacht/2010
Meetings, conferences etc.
Wikimedia Nederland participated with two board members in the fundraising
summit in Bristol, hosted by Wikimedia UK. Two board members attended the
"download debate" (also on copyright legislation) as part of the lobby
process. Also, one board member attended Geo Freedom Day and one attended
Wikimania in Gdańsk.
Coming up
- 1-30 September: Wiki loves monuments
- Press conference 13 September: Nationaal Archief/Spaarnestad releasing
more than 1000 historical Dutch political images
- Geograph photo donation
