So you are proposing that each word/sentance in ASL would have its own
video file, and these are "joined" somehow, with instructions as to how
they are joined coming from some kind of Wikitext? That might work.

PS. There /are/ image files which can be edited other than by
replacement, they are called Scalable Vector Graphics
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics).
