These kinds of
technically-correct-but-probably-not-what-you-wanted issues are a bit
tricky. They're on our list of things to deal with though.
FWIW, the WYSIWYG editor for the Socialtext wiki handles these cases well,
and has since at least 2007 or so. I think Wikia is (or was) using some
derivative of this "Wikiwyg" editor. Regardless, it might be a useful
oracle for VE behavior.
