As long as it's required for any number of bullets, that would be
quite a sensible solution, yes (keeping in mind that we're breaking
reverse-compatibility anyway).
To be clear: I'm recommending the following
*bold* word
* bulleted item
** Second level bullet
* *bulleted bold phrase*
So the bullet tokens are required to be space-terminated.
