I don't
have a strong opinion on the extension issue. However, at the
moment both audio and video are served with application/ogg _and_ the
extension "ogg". So if I want to set up separate audio and video
players for Ogg files (say XMMS and mplayer), I have to set up an
intermediate helper application that, after looking at the file,
decides which application to launch.

I've always viewed this as geek preferences (multiple players)
overriding usability for the common user.... as the realty is that Joe
Average is viewing everything in Windows Media Player.
So long as we don't use ".ogm" I won't protest the use of non-standard
mime types and non-standard extensions ... but I do think that it's
unfortunate that we're still prioritizing geek usability issues over
common user usability on the playback side of things.
I think this is pretty off-topic now. Perhaps we can bring the discussion
back to the point...
We have established that there is currently no standard file extension that
differentiates .ogg video/audio/etc.
So, should we change the file extension for .ogg video on Commons even
though there is no standard extension, and if so what extension should be
used.
I think the issue about whether the standard _should_ exist should be
discussed elsewhere, e.g. the ogg mailing list.
