Going through redlinks is how you create pages on a wiki.
It's not the only way. You can type "weather in london" in the search
box on the left side, and you'll be taken to an intermediate screen,
where you can choose to create the page, or try searching again. I
know you know that - I'm just being pedantic.
Seriously though, when you create an article, it's often a good idea
to create redirects for the common case or accentless variations, if
only to reduce the chance of a duplicate getting created. So, for the
article "Lyon Métro", I would create "Lyon métro", "Lyon
Metro" and
"Lyon metro". Except, it's not actually possible to easily create
"Lyon metro", except by going through the intermediate step of
creating a page (or at least previewing it) with those fake redlinks
in it.
To Platonides: Wikipedia is "cased". It's just that the first letter
isn't case sensitive. However, "soap" and "SOAP" are definitely
two
different entries, for instance. It's just that the interface
apparently does some primitive case resolving when there *aren't* too
separate articles - type NOSTRADAMUS in the search box and it will
take you (silently) to "Nostradamus". Make a link to [[NOSTRADAMUS]]
in an article, and it will be a redlink (and clicking it will
definitely not redirect silently).
