I suppose I don't see this as a negative effect, in the long run. I
think as we fill in the gaps and become more complete and start moving
from "need information" to "need better-presented information", it
might
be desirable to have some minor movement towards meritocracy. Not in
the very strict Nupedia style, but something vaguely more than we have
now. If there's a dispute over an article like, say, [[World War II]],
then I'd want to give more weight to respected long-time contributors
who are experts in the field than to every random person who stops by
Wikipedia and tries to change the article to conform to their personal
viewpoints.
