Dear Wikimedians,
As you may already know, the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) provides a
baseline of behaviour for collaboration on Wikimedia projects worldwide.
Communities may add to this to develop policies that take account of local
and cultural context while maintaining the criteria listed here as a
minimum standard. The Wikimedia Foundation Board has ratified the policy in
December 2020.
The current round of conversations is around how the Universal Code of
Conduct should be enforced across different Wikimedia platforms and spaces.
This will include training of community members to address harassment,
development of technical tools to report harassment, and different levels
of handling UCoC violations, among other key areas.
The conversation hour is an opportunity for community members from South
Asia to discuss and provide their feedback, which will be passed on to the
drafting committee. The details of the conversation hour are as follows:
- Date and Time: 16 September, 5 pm to 6:30 pm IST
- Meeting link: https://meet.google.com/dnd-qyuq-vnd | add to your
calendar
<https://calendar.google.com/event?action=TEMPLATE&tmeid=NmVzbnVzbDA2Y3BwbHU…>
You can also attend the global round table sessions hosted on 18 September
- more details can be found on this page

Hello,
Khilkhilat (Lit: Giggles) is an ambulance service that provides free
ambulance service to a mother and her newly-born child. The free ambulance
service started in Gujarat in 2012, and started expanding in other states
such as Maharashtra (project name "Vastsalaya").
We have had a short Wikipedia article on this project, which is being
expanded at this moment.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khilkhilat
You may help
1) Image upload: The ambulance is pink in color (
https://civilhospitalahd.gujarat.gov.in/writereaddata/images/ambulance-khil…),
however we do not seem to have a free photograph on Wikimedia Commons. An
image in the infobox will definitely improve the article. If anyone from
Gujarat, or any other state, has a free photograph of Khilkhilat, please
upload it on Wikimedia Commons and add in the article.
2) If you know Gujarati, can you tell which is the correct spelling
ખિલખિલાટ or ખીલકીલાત? The ambulance and the posters/news articles use both
the spellings at different places? (I am co-mailing Gujarati mailing list)
3) The article has scope of improvement/expansion, including factual
accuracy check. You may help to expand/improve or do an accuracy check
(please add reliable references while adding information). If properly
expanded we can try taking the article to DYK under the 5X expansion
category.
Thanks,
ইতি,

Dear WIkimedia India Community Members,
Few of us had applied for Wikimedia India Membership in 2019 March.
I get that there was an earlier issue & then, dissolution & etc happened.
Any ETA (Estimated Turn Around) time, for some updates?

Hello Friends and Colleagues,
Thank you to everyone who supported my candidature in the board elections
and also thanks to everyone who voted in this election. WMF Board elections
2021 results are now announced:
https://diff.wikimedia.org/2021/09/07/results-for-the-most-contended-wikime…
The following four candidates received the most support and are going to be
appointed to board after a background check:
1.
Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight
2.
Victoria Doronina
3.
Dariusz Jemielniak
4.
Lorenzo Losa
Except for an unfavourable result, It has been a really great journey for
me. I have spent hours in preparing and attending several meetings with
communities arranged by the election team or individual communities. I
forced myself to think of some very important questions about governance,
community development and other aspects of our movement. This is really
good learning for me.
I felt happy to have a good number of Indian Wikimedians who are also
experienced in movement and projects to contest in this election. Although
none of us could make it, I believe these efforts by candidates would
ignite some necessary awareness and discussion about movement governance in
the Indian Wikimedia movement.
Good wishes to the elected board members and once again thanks to everyone
who voted in this election.
Thanks and Regards,
Pavan Santhosh.
Dear Indian Wikimedians,
This year, as part of Outreach, Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group[1]
has mentored a project in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program.[2] The
project's goal was to create a guided tour on the topic "Writing userscript
and gadget".[3] The project primarily focuses on newbie developers and
existing Wikimedia community members who have little bit knowledge about
JavaScript. It is a step-by-step guided tour to illustrate writing wiki
userscripts and gadgets. It covers basic to advanced topics.
I am very happy to introduce Devyansh Chawla to this community.[4] He was
the Wikimedia Intern for this project in GSoC and successfully completed
this project. The guided tour is currently located on the test wiki. Please
find it at https://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Userscript_Tour. If you have
any suggestions. Please leave it on its talk page.

Sat shri akal everyone,
The *first Share Your Struggle* photography competition has been running
since 15 August 2021 and we have received around 300 images so far
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Share_Your_Struggle…>.
We are *extending the campaign until 15 September 2021*, mainly to allow a
few potential partners to be able to upload their images.
We do recognize that *Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) has started today* and we
hope it is a huge success as it has been in the previous years.
We are not going to actively promote Share Your Struggle via CentralNotice
or other community channels to avoid any conflict with WLM.
Best
Satdeep

Dear friends,
I wish to thank all Indian Wikimedians for your support during the WMF BOT
elections which concluded early this morning. I am especially grateful to
all the Indic language communities which gave me an opportunity to present
my candidacy to their members. My best wishes to all the four candidates
who stood from India for this election. A special shout-out to Krishna
Chaitanya Velaga for all his hard work to make this election a success. :)
I hope that this election throws up at least one candidate from India.
Regardless of outcome, I am honoured to have been chosen by the Indian
community to stand as one of its candidates.
Warm regards, stay safe and happy editting!

Hello all,
We are excited to announce a 3-months long proofread competition which will
run on Bangla Wikisource from September 1 to November 30, 2021 as a result
of an ongoing GLAM collaboration between the Two Centuries of Indian Print
(2CIP) project of the British Library (BL) and the West Bengal Wikimedians
User Group (WBG). This is the second proofread competition under the GLAM
project, the first one happened in March-April.
The event page of the competition is here - https://bn.wikisource.org/s/gwen
(in Bangla)
The GLAM event page is here - https://bn.wikisource.org/s/gt5i (also in
Bangla)
Under the project, 2CIP officials will be uploading public domain Bangla
books from their collection on Wikimedia Commons and our volunteers will
take care of the rest of the work from indexing, proofreading, transcluding
etc. on Wikisource along with building their data on Wikidata. The prizes
to the top 5 winners for this competition will be sent by WBG and BL will
send digital certificates to each one of them.
For those who are interested to learn more about the project, there is a
