Distinguished colleagues, friends, greetings!
I hope this email finds you all well.
The time has come to put Movement Strategy into work and in the service of
communities. Colleagues from the region are organizing a casual call for
South Asian groups, Indian Wikimedians, and other enthusiasts on *Friday
October 30 @ 19:30 IST *[1]. Please join us with your questions and ideas,
or just to say hi.
South Asia - both in terms of demographic and technological trends - is key
for the future growth and sustainability of the Wikimedia movement. The 10
Movement Strategy recommendations [2] and 45 initiatives [3] have a lot of
great ideas to guide us for the next 10 years. Right now though, we need to
figure out what we should work on first in 2021. We are asking communities
and affiliates to identify their priorities for implementation, as well as
the required resources and capacities. In late November, we will all come
together in global meetings to create a movement-wide implementation plan.
Before the call on Oct. 30, think about: what is work that you're already
doing that is aligned with Movement Strategy? What are priorities for you
and your community in 2021? What resources will you need? What are things
we should all work on globally?
Please don't hesitate if you have any questions or comments.
Best,
Mehrdad

Hi everyone,
(Apologies for cross-posting.)
Last month, we shared a survey to inform the planning and funding processes
of Wikipedia 20 anniversary celebrations. The survey results have
demonstrated interest in hosting virtual and in-person events around the
world to celebrate Wikipedia’s 20th birthday.
We are excited to announce that the Wikimedia Foundation will be supporting
individuals and groups planning to hold Wikipedia 20 celebration events
through the Rapid Grants program.
The Rapid Grants program can support event plans with a budget ranging from
500 USD, up to 2,000 USD. All the details, the eligibility criteria, and
the application form are available on the Wikipedia 20 grants meta page. [1]
Applications for Rapid Grants are accepted between the 1st and 15th of each
month, and a decision on the application is, typically, ready by the end of
that month. For applicants who would like to host Wikipedia celebration
events during the month of January 2021, we highly recommend applying as
soon as possible (i.e. during the November 2020 cycle). For later events
through the end of 2021, applications will continue to be open later in the
year.
*Other funding opportunities*
If your plans for the Wikipedia 20 celebration event don’t meet some of the
eligibility criteria for a Rapid Grant (e.g. your budget is expected to
exceed $2000), you may want to consider reducing the scale of your
activities, or to explore other grant opportunities that may better support
your plan:
-
Additional funding for Conference & Event grantees (e.g. for a regional
or thematic conference) who wish to incorporate a celebration event to an
existing conference. [2]
-
Conference & Event Grants to support celebration events for more than
2000 USD. [2]
*Round one applications for Conference & Event grants is now closed.
Details for round two (for events that will be held between July and
December 2021) will be announced on the conference and event grants page.
For more information on Wikipedia 20, please visit the Wikipedia 20 grants
meta page. [1]
Thank you and please share the message with your communities!

Hello Wikimedians,
We are very happy to announce that the Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in India
is starting from tomorrow and will continue for the entire month of
September.
As this year, we are facing devastating effects of COVID-19, we urge you
to stay inside your home to avoid exposure to the deadly virus. You do not
have to go outside of your safe zone to photograph monuments. We are
completely okay if you can upload old photographs taken by you. Please be
safe first!
We are also expecting lesser participation than previous years due to the
restriction of movement due to the pandemic. So, to increase awareness
about the competition, we have created a promotional video at the last
moment (special thanks to Ananya and Rahul) and boosted it on Facebook.
Thanks to CIS-A2K for sponsoring the promotion part.
You can find the video on Commons here -
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020_in_India_…
and on Facebook here - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1616065545227639
Regarding the list of monuments, it will grow even during the competition
as the data entry is a continuous work for us throughout the year. We
heartily welcome Wikimedians from different parts of the country to work on
monuments protected by different local agencies and inform us in the event
talk page. We will find ways together to include them in the master list.
Just like previous years, we again promising to wrap up everything within
the expected timeline after the competition ends and we are going to keep
our promise again. :-)
Welcome you all in the competition,
Regards,
Bodhisattwa

Hi everyone,
As you know, WikiProject India
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_India> is celebrating
the 8th birthday of Wikidata
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday/India> this October
and on this occasion, CIS-A2K <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K>
will be sending *Wikidata special merchandise* to *all Indian affiliates*
and *communities* upon request as well as *active Wikidata contributors
residing in India*.
*Affiliates and Communities*
Please note,
- *All Indian affiliates* are welcome to request for Wikidata special
merchandise and/or infrastructure. There is no need for community
notification. But, affiliate contacts or board members or executive
committee members or people in similar positions, who can represent the
affiliate, need to do the request.
- *All Indian language communities*, except those who have geographical
affiliates, are welcome to request for Wikidata special merchandise
requests. But, the community should decide on-wiki and have clear consensus
to whom the merchandise will be sent.
- Indian language communities having geographical affiliates are
requested to discuss any need with their respective affiliates first and
ask them to request them on their behalf.
- Only *one request for each* affiliate or language community will be
accepted.
- It is expected that the requests for merchandise and/or infrastructure
should be practical enough to be used by community members and within the
budget of *maximum INR 10,000 for each affiliates*.
- CIS-A2K will not design for the merchandise. If any custom design is
preferred, the affiliate or the community should upload it to Wikimedia
Commons as svg format and send the link to CIS-A2K, which will be taken
care of, while printing it. The design should be Wikidata specific only.
If this sounds interesting, please feel free to request here -
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday/India#Affiliates_and…
*Active contributors*
- CIS-A2K will *pro-actively send* different gifts or merchandise as
small token of appreciation for active Wikidata contributors from India.
Contributors *do not have to request* them.
- Merchandise can be in the form of T-shirts or mementos or other
things. The budget allocated for each contributor is *INR 1,000*.
- CIS-A2K will take care of the designing part.

Bodhisattwa
