Every year, Marathi Bhasha Din is celebrated on 27 February. This year also
it was celebrated across Maharashtra and also within the Marathi community
across the world.
Maharashtra Government took a great initiative this year to promote Marathi
Wikipedia. Government published many advertisements featuring various
celebrities who were asking to edit Marathi Wikipedia on the occasion of
"Marathi Bhasha Din" This is a major boost for raising awareness of Marathi
Wikipedia among the "aam janata". Marathi Wikipedia community is expecting
a considerable contribution to mrwp because of the Government support. Lets
see how things work out.
Please check out the Marathi Wikipedia (https://mr.wikipedia.org ) where
you can get most of the videos and other material related to this.
Warm regards,

Subject: [Wikimedia Education] Changes to the 'Save' button
To: Wikimedia Education <education(a)lists.wikimedia.org>,
glam(a)lists.wikimedia.org <glam(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
*Nutshell: The big, blue button will soon say "Publish page" instead of
"Save page", because when you click it, the contents get published on the
internet.*
I apologize for cross-posting this to the GLAM and Education lists:
A long-requested change to the "Save" button may finally happen towards the
end of March. This is a button that anyone leading a workshop about
editing is going to talk about, so I wanted to make sure that you didn't
get surprised by this change.
Last year, the WMF looked into an old request to clarify the language on
the "Save" button, which confuses some new contributors. The main problem
is that it is unclear whether "Save" means "save a private copy" (as it
does on most websites these days) or "irrevocably post this to the
internet". This confusion apparently explains a few unwanted behaviors,
such as editors who save the page ("just to be safe") before previewing
their changes.
There are some other reasons behind to do this: It creates some
inconsistency in the interface, as some things (e.g., Special:Preferences)
get saved but kept private, while other things (e.g., normal wiki pages)
get saved and immediately published. It is also difficult to translate the
label into some languages, as the word has multiple possible translations
in some languages.
The plan, therefore, is to change "Save" to "Publish". Instead of the big
blue[1] button saying "Save page" (for a new page) or "Save changes" (when
you edit an existing page), the button will instead say "Publish page" or
"Publish changes".
The upside to this small change is that new contributors will understand
that all of their edits go to the public immediately.[2] The downside is
that all of the documentation and help pages is going to be out of date.
This plan was announced on the wikis last August, and is tentatively
scheduled for sometime in March. I hope that this extra note will keep you
from getting surprised in front of a group and give you enough time to
update any handouts that you might be using in the future.

[1] The color of this button in all of the older wikitext editors will be
changing this week. It's going to be big and blue.
[2] This is true even when the wiki is using FlaggedRevisions or
PendingChanges, because the un-accepted changes can be seen by the general
public from the history page or from &oldid URLs, regardless of whether the
revision has been accepted.

Hello all,
We've just published the February 2017 Indic Wikisource statistics. In this
stats I have added one table for Readable Book. This is the 100% validated
Index: <https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/en:Help:Page_status> file with
Transclusion <https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/en:Help:Transclusion> in main
page (NS:0). I have not found any pages in all Indic Wikisource, so I have
digging in Index file list. In this month CIS have organized a Workshop
for Marathi Wikisource, which is quite dead project.[1] I would request to
CIS to organized the same for Assamese, Sanskrit and Kannada Wikisource.
Here is the few stats ans their top three rank...
*As per Number of article*
1. Sanskrit Wikisource ( 16339 pages) - supported by 0.04% scan pages.
(with 170 Index Pages)
2. Telugu Wikisource ( 11778 pages) - supported by 24.56% scan pages. (with
267 Index Pages)
3. Kannada Wikisource ( 9597 pages) - supported by 0.86% scan pages. (with
116 Index Pages)
*As per Number of page Validation*
1. Telugu Wikisource (19539 pages) with 267 Index Pages
2. Tamil Wikisource (5306 pages) with 2168 Index Pages
3. Gujarati Wikisource ( 4562 pages) with 43 Index Pages
*As per Number of page Proofread*
1. Telugu Wikisource (23910 pages)
2. Tamil Wikisource ( 8425 pages)
3. Malayalam and Bengali Wikisource ( 8067 pages)
*As per percentage supported by scan pages.*
1. Bengali Wikisource (30.62%)
2. Telugu Wikisource ( 24.71%)
3. Gujarati Wikisource (18.62%)
I want to specially mention that there are no visible improvement on
proofreading works and page content supported by scan at Marathi,Assamese,
Sanskrit, Odia, and Kannada Wikisource.

Dear Friends,
On 9th February 2017, Wikipedians in Bhubaneswar celebrated the first
anniversary of Bhubaneswar WikiTungi.
WikiTungi [1] is a city based Wikipedia community formed to help the
Wikipedians in the city to meet, share and learn. The Odia community's
WikiTungi is a based in two cities, Puri and Bhubaneswar. While Wikimedians
in Puri conduct meetups bi-monthly, Bhubaneswar Wikimedians meet once a
month. In every meetup, Wikimedians exchange their resources with each
other, helping address their doubts and queries regarding their problems
and projects.
During the first anniversary meeting of the Bhubaneswar WikiTungi, The
community members came up with few ideas to implement it as a best practice
in the Wikipedia movement.
*The Tungi members will invite one of the global community leaders for a
Skype or hangout session.
* Discuss the best practice from the global community and discuss them with
the community.
*Updating the minutes of the meeting and sharing them with the other
community members.
*Updating the learning and evaluation team about the new learning of the
community every month.
*The community will also send Postcards as a souvenir to the participants
of the global community for the online sessions.
We invite you to join us for the hangout sessions and share your best
practice with the Tungi members[2]. Please feel free to suggest us more
ideas.
