Heya guys, you sent your message at the opportune moment. When we have
got to such a level, that we are hosting an international level event,
we should put our differences aside, and each individual community
should stick to each other and provide support. This kind of
fragmentation, that too, at this time, is silly, childish, stupid, and
among other things, downright selfish. Please reconsider your thoughts
and actions and let us make this even a grand success so that next
year Wikipedians all over would love to come to India. -- Regards,
Srikanth R, dying to start a Coimbatore community.

Please find below the notes for the internationalisation triage bug
triage held on Wednesday, September 14, 13:00UTC in #wikimedia-dev on
Freenode IRC.
9 people participated in the triage. Two of the participants were new
to MediaWiki. I'm very happy that the triage attracted new potential
MediaWiki developers!
The triage was to have have two sections, each taking about 30 minutes.
We ended up with a "first half" of about 55 minutes and a second half
Of about 20 minutes.
Next week's triage is on WikiBooks

* It looks like a schema change is not needed, and that the
page_props table can and should be used. Use batches where needed;
integrate that in Linker, LinkBatch and probably Title as well.
Ambitious according to Roan. Roan agrees that having displaytitle as a
page_ field makes more sense *conceptually*. In practice, he prefers
page_props because that avoids a schema change and is still cheap.
Niklas indicated the discussion gave him ideas on how to work towards
resolving these issues.
The other announced issues were not discussed.
Thanks to everyone participating. Looking forward to the results!

In the recent announcement about the wikimedia conference I saw this:
*
Social Media Facebook and Linkedin event pages, and official Twitter account
*Mediawiki as a media technology does not belong there. It is not the
outcome and end that this group should be interested in, but also means of
getting there.
I personally think we should encourage and use the free software
alternatives like identi.ca, diaspora so that the event takes an opportunity
to promote these media which protects user's freedom.
By linking your account to other facebook or twitter followers to
identi.caaccount you will help tell the world that microblogging can
be done with
free software as well and your event supports/sponsors identi.ca.
I do hope the mediawiki conference supports free social media and uses this
occasion to spread this message among the wikimedians.

So here's a question - given that there is much content that is out of
copyright in India but not necessarily in other parts of the world, is
there any sense in looking to create an Indian Wikisource for content
that is out of copyright here?
Thank you.
Best,
Gautam

hi,
Saw this on twitter, from Mike Peel, the Wiki Wildlife Bristol -
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Wildlife_Bristol. Given the situation of
wild life awareness in India, I think it might be a great idea to do
something like this in India.
People like Ashwin (User:AshLin) and his friend, User:Shyamal may be
interested in taking a lead?
warm regards,
Pradeep

Hoi,
I am really happy that Narayam, the extension that provides you with input
methods for your languages is live for some of them on some of the projects.
Have a look and let us know how you like it.

Dear All,
I have had this problem for over two years and I belive that this
problem is unseen in most cases and will remain so untill addressed.
There are many cases where incorrect facts are shown with references.
This is purely due to lack of sources. I noticed this back in 2009
when I found that according to all available sources, the only
concrete trunk road in India is the Mumbai Pune Expressway. This I
know is not true. The East Coast Arm of the Golden Quadrilateral has a
few concrete sections, confirmed with photographs on the websites of
the National Highways Authority of India and the Nagarjuna
Construction Company. Apart from this, I personally have seen that the
Hubli Belgaum Toll Road Private Limited, Pune Satara Toll Road are
also made of concrete. Now since I couldn't use these pictures as
sources, mainly due to copyright issues and that I wasn't into
photographs at that time, I ignored it. Recently I thought I could try
and use the Oral Citations on this little issue and see, but after a
chat with Achal yesterday I dropped the idea as it would need to be
authoritative or in short I'd need a government official to talk. This
as I've experienced earlier, isn't an easy task. Therefore, I place a
request here for people to suggest something, as this problem is
rising unchecked ...
