Subject: [Foundation-l] Living Person Task Force: Phase Two
To: Wikimedia Foundation Mailing List <foundation-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello, Wikimedians.
This weekend I plan on finalizing the timeline for phase two of the Living
Person Task Force: a community findings recommendation.
What we are interested in is people from all size wikis participating in
discussing common interests and problems on interpersonal and intrapersonal
interaction relating to Wikimedia projects. This includes statistics
gathering, examination of how projects handle OTRS complaints/issues, image
use, quotation use, and sourcing. It is very important that we get
participation in these areas, if anything just to received feedback on the
wiki. I have subpages set up for these discussion on the Strategy site, <
http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Task_force/Living_People>.
In six to eight weeks we'd like to develop recommendations from the Task
Force that are more in-depth than the proposed recommendations to be passed
by the Board this month, to assist in developing projects identify and set
up structures for the issues that come with societies.
If you have experience dealing with living people on any of our wikis, or if
you have ideas on how policies can be established/improved, please
participate in the discussions so that we can adequately asses the projects
as a whole.
Thanks for your time, see you on the wiki!

Dear Fellow India Wikimedians,
I take great pleasure in informing you all that with the submission of a draft of MoA to the Chapters Committee for their final ratification and approval, the objective of establishing Wikimedia India is closer to fruition. This latest draft of MoA has taken all (y)our discussions so far into consideration and has been given its final shape after due deliberations with legal experts. A copy of the latest draft can be accessed at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_India/MoA-ChapComVer. I also take this opportunity for thanking one and all in making this a reality.
Cheers,
Srinivas.

In case you haven't seen the posting on Foundation-l, here is Michael
Snow's message welcoming Bishakha Datta from India on to the board of
trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation.
A warm welcome to you on the Wikimedia India mailing list, Bishakha -
great to have you here.

Text of message from Foundation-l:
As many of you know, we have had one vacant seat left on the Wikimedia
Foundation Board of Trustees for the board to appoint. We have now
filled that seat by appointing Bishakha Datta, a journalist, filmmaker,
and nonprofit leader from India. In the course of finding Bishakha, we
met with a number of great people and had a lot of support going through
the process, and I want to thank everyone who participated.
I hope everyone will warmly welcome Bishakha as part of our community.
By way of background, Bishakha runs a nonprofit based in Mumbai that
focuses on conveying women's perspectives in culture and the media. She
also has been involved in other international nonprofit work, and her
knowledge of India should be a great help to us as we move forward with
the strategic plan. In general, her experience will be a wonderful asset
and I think she is an ideal fit for the remaining board seat.
In a bit of an ironic twist, Bishakha's organization is called Point of
View, but rest assured that she understands and endorses the neutral
point of view approach for Wikimedia projects. Her journalistic
background means she appreciates the value of an objective presentation,
and throughout our conversations with her it was clear that she supports
our mission and values.
We will have an official press release in the next day or so with some
more information. I'm excited to be able to work with Bishakha, and I
know that she is looking forward to being involved as well.

Hoi,
I have been so bold to write about getting information out about the
villages, towns and cities of India. There are several problems that I see:
- there are many villages, towns and cities in India
- there are many Wikipedias that should be interested in all these places
- the integration of OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia needs to get an initial
product out
In my blog I have written that in order to achieve the third objective we
need a project manager. In order to achieve the first two, you need to make
this one of your objectives.. It is with the localisation of the Indian
languages a perfect objective for the Indian chapter..
I know that it is not my place, but hey, may I dream of something that will
be worthwhile ?
Thanks,
GerardM
