Hoi,
Last week Thursday there was no localisation for the Malayalam wikipedi, it
did not have a mobile main page.. Today it is the first language of India
that has the best support we can offer to mobile telephones. According to
many, the mobile phone will generate much of our future traffic..
I hope and expect that India will amaze us and grow a vibrant and rich
community for all its languages.
Thanks,
GerardM

Hoi,
I am happy to inform you that today the localisation of the "Wikimedia
mobile" interface was complete. The languages from India are likely to be
taken more seriously when we make sure that they are ALL localised. Today I
found an article about the likelyhood that mobile interfaces are the way of
the future .. <grin> some say that you make your own future </grin> if this
is the case, your languages will be part of it :)
Thanks,
GerardM
Hoi,
I have been interested in mobile mediawiki less then a week and I am
thankful to the Urdu localisers for pointing me in this direction..
- 13 more languages are now completely localised
- Swahili was completed (Africa)
- Malayalam was completed (India)
- there is now some documentation on all the aspects of Wikipedia
optimised for mobile telephone
- Mobile MediaWiki needs to get more prominence on the websites when the
strategy says that it will bring us more traffic
- The localisation is only 24 messages at this time ... it makes sense to
do it for every language, particularly yours
- Something like once a week the localisations are updated I have been
told
So, this is an easy one... help us get more traffic, make Wikipedia better
accessible in your language.
Thanks,
GerardM
Hoi,
After the completion of the Urdu, Malayalam and Bengali mobile interface for
Wikipedia, the Telugu localisation has now also been completed as well :)
On the Dutch Wikipedia we are experimenting with a special mobile main page
.. When people arrive on their mobile it may look good ..
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portaal:Hoofdpagina_(mobiel) There is still too
much on it; we need to consider the speed and the cost of mobile traffic as
well.
Thanks,
GerardM
