You seem to have a more positive view of machine translation than I have.
Machine translations can be helpful in translating, but no good translation
will be got by taking a machine translation and 'correcting the errors'.
Rather, one will have to write at least half and probably everything by
hand, and have the machine translation only as a reference.
Just change the following into correct English (from es:Etimología del topónimo Perú)
It is known that, at least from 1523, ten years before the Spanish conquest, the Peru name already is fixed, as they testify referring documents to the payment of tributes by gold obtained in the Paschal expedition of of Andagoya "que went to the province of Peru, and Juan Garci'a de Montenegro, who was by Veedor (...) certain gold which they said had been it the this trip of the Perú". Before paying attention the form definitive of the name it had had variant like Birú, Berú or Pirú, with which one is in diverse documents of the time.

On japanese wikipedia, some had a discussion regarding copyright of fonts. I
thought this is something I should share with people outside of japanese
wikipedia.
Our projects are based on web sites, so we do not offer any fonts, probably.
But when people print out articles, or a wikibook for distribution, do they
have to use GFDL-compatible fonts?
My limited research indicates that fonts are protected by special law,
copyright law, or some other intellectual property law in many countries. In
Japan, it seems that the court have said that a font set is not a copyright
work, but a work of industrial design.
What if we offer some info. via PDF files or pngs? I know there are
WikiReader (print) and timeline (png with text) are coming out. Any tips for
others for others who want to do similar projects?
regards,
Tomos

I can see why misuse of this project to host personal vanity webpages
would be a concern, but I think there may be better ways to discourage
that. I don't see a good reason to ban articles about the living,
especially since it's probably easier to get information about a person
while they're still alive.
Instead, if the project is oriented toward genealogy rather than
encyclopedic biography, it could be designed to focus on certain
categories of information. "Family trees" all have something in common
in terms of format, and most genealogical data is directed towards
things like dates and places for major life events. A genealogy project
might have more in common with Wiktionary than Wikipedia, in the sense
that entries are more restricted in the types of information that are
presented. An article might allow for dates and places of birth, death,
marriage, etc., cause of death, names of parents and siblings, and other
appropriate information, the same way that a Wiktionary article would
consist primarily of spelling, pronunciation, part of speech,
definition, etymology, usage, etc. If the purpose of the project is
clear, we can set boundaries that prevent people from using it as a
vehicle for a blog, or whatever else it is we don't want them doing with it.

Bonjour tous.

* Jimbo, le prsident
* deux autres personnes, qui prcisons le, ne sont pas des employs de Jimmy, mais ses associs dans Bomis. Pendant 3 ans, c'est la socit Bomis qui a financ le projet, et donc indirectement ces deux personnes, mme si celles-ci ne participent pas.
* deux reprsentants des utilisateurs.
A ceci j'ajouterais

Dear Members of the Tiki Community,
I am looking to forge business relationships with Institutions and Non-Profit Organisations such as yours.
I came across your Wiki website while searching for 'VoIP' on Google and believe that our product will be of benefit when looking for ways to raise funds - globally.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Over the past 29 months I have been using and testing a VoIP Communications system which this month will see the distribution of our most powerful version being released, at no extra cost to exisiting customers. We are now supplying Madison Dynamics' iCONcommunicator to many online Businesses and Learning Institutions, globally.
Having read through most of your site's content, as well as one of your members' sites (Dennis Daniels), I realised that our state-of-the-art VoIP systems would not only enhance your global interaction and communication with (and between) your communities, it is already proving a very lucrative fund-raising solution to non-profit organisations, worldwide.
I would be honoured to meet with you on-line to demonstrate the power of the iCONcommunicator to your members - and expand on how it is offering very lucrative funding solutions around the globe.
Expect to be amazed!

On June 13, 2004 - one day after the "Wikipedia and Friends" panel at the
Wizards of OS conference, see http://www.wizards-of-os.org - there will be
a Wikipedia/Wikimedia community meeting in Room H2033 of the Technical
University Berlin (main building at Ernst-Reuter-Platz/Straße des 17.
Juni). See
http://www.tu-berlin.de/eng/about_tu/anreise.htm
for more information on how to get there. There are over 60 seats.
This will be an opportunity to meet Wikipedians from Germany, Europe, the
United States and elsewhere, including Jimmy Wales. It will also give us
eight hours or more to discuss issues of importance to Wikipedia and the
Wikimedia Foundation.
One primary concern for the German Wikipedians is the setup of a German
daughter organization of the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. The formalities of
this process will be discussed.
The results of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election, closed
on Saturday, will be officially announced. The meeting can also be used to
discuss Wikipedia's internal policies, those of our sister projects like
Wikibooks and Wiktionary, possible future projects for the Wikimedia
Foundation, effective fundraising, quality control mechanisms, and the
print edition.
A tentative agenda is being developed at
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Community_Day
This page will be translated into English as soon as it has reached a
stable state. If you don't speak German you can already register yourself
and suggest issues to discuss on the talk page ("Diskussion" link). If
there's enough international interest we can move the whole thing to Meta
and continue to develop it there.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who will come.

I disagree. It is not functioning the way you want it, but:
* It _is_ functioning - it is only the sub-categorization that is not
* I don't even know whether I _want_ it to function the way you say.
Non-transparent subcategories provide a way to subdivide categories
that are getting unwieldily large. Weighing this against the possibility
of having a single category page that refers to all titles, I am not
sure yet which I find the greater advantage.
As another issue, the text 'category' for referring to a category, is
it the same on other languages, is it coupled to the name of the
category-namespace or is it separately defineable?
