Prehaps to avoid similar things happening in the future, an idea of giving
24-48 hours
notice should be given to bids directly to put things in order before making
things official.
Not sure it would be put in place but an idea to consider.

That would impressive work by the press to hear about the result and
contact the local team/chapter before they were able to check their
email. I agree, it wouldn't be a very nice way to find out if it did
happen, though.

Well, I know that when the Brisbane bid last time around was struck
without first being informed, I received plenty of distressed mobile
calls from our bidding partners before I happened to log on and check my
email. Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed at being put on the spot
by the bid committee like that.
