First of all, I have to express on behalf of Wikimedia
Argentina our
deep gratitude for the election of Buenos Aires as host for WikimanÃa
2009. Like the other bidding teams, we have been working hard during
the last months to provide a solid proposal. Every aspect in our bid
was extensively developed and, as the representatives of the Jury
recognized in the recent press release, a strong and organized team
gave most of it to satisfy the requirements. Again we thank you for
considering our work and choosing the "Paris of the South" as it is
called Buenos Aires.
Congratulations. I look forward to finally visiting the southern
hemisphere, and perhaps sharing the experience of mate with a wider
group of people.
Buenos Aires is, as we mentioned, a vibrant city.
Culture lives
everywhere, as tourists often remark. Architecture, literature,
arts... a large Wikimedian community! Party opportunities also live
everywhere, for those interested, as the city is renowned for its
nightlife. Openness is guaranteed in al senses possible. You will know
Buenos Aires and its edition of WikimanÃa. I'm sure you will not be
disappointed.
I do have a comment about a picture in [[en:Buenos Aires]],
[[Callerivadavia.jpg]] The way that the gentleman in the foreground is
bundled suggests that Buenos Aires is a very cold place, and I know that
Wikimania will be taking place in the depths of the Southern Winter. If
there is an available picture that gives a warmer impression it might be
more in keeping with a positive view of your city. :-)
