As this is the first year the UK has participated we wanted to make sure we
didn't bite off more than we can chew. Grade I and II* (or category A in
Scotland) are the most important listed buildings in the UK and that still
amounts to over 38,000 individual listings.
If things go well this year, we have the option of expanding to include
Grade II listed buildings in the future, but as there are about 400,000
listed buildings of all grades it seemed sensible to start small and focus
on the most important sites.
