Hi Phil,
Thanks for the compliment - writing feedback for developers is one result
that comes from years of testing new ICT products. I added my initial
feedback to the mobile app here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_mobile_application/Feedb…
It may be appropriate to initiate a feedback page on Commons for this,
since I don't think many people have userids on MediaWiki, whereas all
succesfull uploaders for WLM will definitely have a Commons userid. To
answer your question, my telephone is a HTC Desire C.
As far as the description field goes:
I noticed the "upload button" in the NRHP lists on the English Wikipedia
seems to send a proper description field. I see this as a definite
improvement because it reduces one step of the Commons upload process. The
fields are still editable, so the user can add to the default description.
A case in point is a church in Asheville, NC - here is the link with
description field, object id, and coordinates filled, that the NRHP
wikipedia page produces:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&cam…
Basically it stuffs the object name into an inline redirect for an English
Wikipedia article name and uses that for the description. More info is in
the logic of the object row template here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:NRHP_row
The result of using this upload button can be seen here:

Hi Jane,
Thanks for this great feedback.
Yes, you are absolutely right, the Upload Wizard on Commons should use the
same feature, though it is not quite as applicable. I suppose it depends on
whether people upload all photos of a monument at the same time, or not.
As for the description field, that is currently not an available parameter
in pre-filling the Upload Wizard. I think the idea is that the description
is better for the user to fill out, and users should be encouraged to add a
description (granted, the Upload Wizard makes it mandatory). However, in
the mobile app we just fill it in and don't expose it to the user to
streamline the experience.
Please let us know what kind of phone and which version of Android you are
using, as that may give us some insight into the nature of the problem you
were having.
Thanks.

Phil,
I tested the app update today and the new link for desktop use works
great! I was somewhat disappointed it just gives me the WLM identifier,
without prefilling the field for description, but when I am behind my
computer it is much easier to use copy&paste than with the mobile phone.
Shouldn't this feature be included for the regular WLM uploader? If
someone has already uploaded through the WLM uploader, then it is much
easier to upload from their picture than to scan the wikipedia lists (on
some language Wikipedia that is not Commons) for the identifier, no?
Also, as far as the update goes, my earlier issues seem to be fixed. I am
now able to choose the "nearby" option and then take a photo and upload
that directly. Previous to this update I needed to first take a foto and
then I could only use the app to upload from my gallery. I still notice
some problems with local positioning with the GPS (the GPS is at times off,
both for my position and for the monument positions), but this may just be
the way GPS works with my phone.

Ok, thanks. Let's see what happens.
I believe most of the data issues in various countries have been fixed,
so the app should be fairly universal at this point.

There was only one new translation added after Jean Fréreric message.
Anyway, Imvoed the four translations (plus a bonus one) to the message
when creating it (unmerged so far).
I think TWN is better in the long term, but it could be faster with the
template if people is active here. We could manually move some messages
from one system to the other before doing a final switch.
It's a pity we can't do {{#ifexist: MediaWiki:msg/xy}}, that would give
us the best of both worlds.
