I don't think it is standards compliant. Secondly, Wikipedia is not
designed to be read only online, its designed to be available for
anyone to use in any way they like - how to you parse a hidden spoiler
when printing articles out?
With proper CSS it can be very standards-compliant. The links to reveal the
spoilers can be hidden in print media.
Of course I still think this isn't the proper solution. The real solution is
to delete Template:Spoiler and friends ASAP.
