Tony Sidaway stated for the record:
The three cases I've found happen to involve Roman
Catholic
anti-abortionists, but I have no read to believe that this is the only
large and popular grouping in which these userboxes happen to be
abused. I just happen to have noticed these cases. I have no reason
to believe that this kind of abuse will lessen with time--indeed if
it's not strongly opposed it's very likely to grow to become a
customary form of abuse. We don't need this.
It seems to me that while userboxes do facilitate the building of blocs,
they also create highly insecure conspiracies. I am Catholic and
therefore anti-abortion; I'm strongly tempted to add the appropriate
userboxes to my page so that these bloc-builders will contact me and I
can alter the defenders of the NPOV. Some of the smarter conspirators
may be able to filter me out of their spammings, but the majority aren't
that clever.
Maybe the bloc-building shouldn't be driven underground, just subverted.
