most people care
more about themselves and their private interests rather than the WP,
it is makes perfect sense to filter people who want to join.
Jimbo has said this many times - Wikipedia works on the assumption
that most people want to be good contributors. Better to allow
everyone first, and have mechanisms to filter out the bozos later.
The wiki way doesn't need to be extremist:
Centrist solutions work better.
Wikis work primarily because they are extremely unconventional.
