Some things to think about: How do you create a
description
for a battleship that saw service with several different
navies or a river that runs through several different countries?
How do you create a description for a country that does not
exist anymore or a location that has been destroyed? How do
you create a description for a fictional person, item, place,
etc., when Wikidata does not currently have an effective way
of denoting that something is fictional? It might make sense
to use Wikipedia categories to augment the Wikidata statements.
The "fictional" attribute has its specific pecularities. There
are some doubtless cases where Wikipedia has categories
indicating fictionality, e.g. "Lt. Commander Whorf" of Startrek,
or "Pinocchio". How about "Atlantis"? fictional or real? Undecided?
Even harder: "god": some in my neighborhood insist on "fictional",
some others clearly vote for "real", some say "dunno", and there
is the option to say "this question cannot be decided", isn't that
fun? :-) The absence of a categorization as "fictional" does not
imply anything. Yet it would be generally most useful to have an
attribute, the value of which is one of "fictional, real, unknown,
disputed," maybe more. For me, there is no obvious source to
infer these values from, except "fictional" in many cases.
