Hey folks :)
On Monday a new colleague started working with us on Wikidata. His
name is Jonas Kress. He'll be supporting us on user interface
development and much more. He says: "Hey I am Jonas the new guy in the
Wikidata team. I have a passion for free knowledge, coding and
traveling. Feel free to contact me if you like to get to know more
about me."
Addshore is also back at Wikimedia Germany and will support the
software development here again with an initial focus on Wikidata.
Cheers

Now that we have the new ISRC property (International Standard Recording
Code) ...
Can someone propose a new property to capture the "length of sound
recording' with a property ? (if another property doesn't exist, from my
cursory inspection, it does not exist)
See ISRC FAQ snippet below from https://www.usisrc.org/faqs/assignment.html
*Q. When do changes in a recording merit a new ISRC?*
A new ISRC must be issued when:
- A sound recording is re-mixed or edited.
- If a new fade changes the length of a track by more than 10 seconds.
- Edits that change the length of a sound recording by more than 10
seconds (playing time is measured from the first recorded modulation to the
last recorded modulation).
- A previously released sound recording is partially used as part of a
compilation.
- A 'full restoration' of a historical recording is performed by
re-mastering, re-pitching, re-equalizing, de-noising or de-clicking a sound
recording to meet contemporary quality standards. The registrant of the
recording has discretion when making the determination between full
re-mastering (sound restoration) and simple re-mastering (reproduction
without sound restoration).

Hi all,
I will be doing a short presentation about Wikidata at an ISKO conference
in London Knowledge Organization – making a difference
<http://www.iskouk.org/content/knowledge-organization-making-difference>
(13th - 14th July)
The title of the talk is "Wikidata: the potential of structured data to
enable applications such as Histropedia"
Unfortunately it's a bit misleading as I've changed the focus of the talk,
but missed the boat for changing the title. It's actually going to be
entirely about Wikidata, with a brief mention of a range of third party
uses (the description in the programme will reflect this though).
The organisers have asked that I spread the word about the conference, so
please do let anyone know who may interested in attending :)
Best wishes,
Navino
Hey folks :)
It's been a while since the last office hour. We'll do the next one on
June 19th at 16UTC in #wikimedia-office on Freenode. See
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?hour=16&min=00&sec=0&d…
for your timezone.
Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
Cheers

Hi,
The "Other projects sidebar" beta feature is already on by default in some
projects, such as the Italian Wikipedia and the French Wikipedia. Search
for otherProjectsLinksByDefault in
http://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=InitialiseSettings.php
Is there any reason not to make it it on by default in all (or most)
projects?

Do we have statistics on how many aliases we have compared to the
redirects in Wikipedia and Wikiquote, especially for proper names? I'd
suppose that all redirects have been imported by now.
Aliases are a rather efficient way to store redirects for names which
are used in many forms. My only problem is that there is no way to add
an alias for languages, e.g. Latin names of learned people; but I hope
search does or will remedy by searching in all languages anyway.

Hey folks :)
I'll be giving a talk about the state of Wikidata at Wikimania in
Mexico City. Is there anything you think I should definitely talk
about? Some great story? A useful project? Some nice numbers?
Cheers
