Have anyone heard about a LoCloud project in Europeana? Its about
integration of Wikimedia services and content in a cloud service for
local glam institutions. It seems like the project was started
officially in March 2013.
LoCloud is a cloud service for small and medium sized institutions. It
seems like WLM will be part of this through work package 3, and then
as a micro service (!) in a larger system based on SaaS.

Heya folks :)
The URL datatype is now available on test.wikidata.org. It'd be
amazing if you could give it some testing. We hope to roll it out on
Monday however there are a few things outside our hands that still
need review. It might happen that we have to delay it because of that
until the next deployment in 2 weeks. Either way some testing would be
great and useful.
When testing please be aware that URLs are right now not checked
against the spam blacklist and that there is an issue with too long
URLs.
Cheers

Heya folks :)
We've come very far with Wikidata. So far we've concentrated on
getting the basics up and running in terms of development. We've now
reached a point where it's time to also look at some of the small
annoyances and bugs that slipped through or that you didn't bother
reporting because bigger things still need fixing. Those small things
we realize though have a huge impact on how much fun it is to use
Wikidata. We've therefor started a page to collect paper cuts. Paper
cuts are small annoyances or bugs that are relatively easy to fix but
have a large impact on how enjoyable it is to use the site. If you've
come across something that fits this description please do report it
on this page: http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Paper_cuts If
it's already in bugzilla please add "paper cut" to the whiteboard
field there.
Cheers

Hi,
I just stumbled upon this report
http://moz.com/blog/the-day-the-knowledge-graph-exploded
that tells that Google's use of its Knowledge Graph hast drastically
increased from one day to the other. Does someone know, if this is
related to WikiData in any way?! If not ... this reference to wider
adoption of (semantic) data in the web is good news nevertheless.

michael

I’d say that WikiData is almost implied by the fundamental flaw of DBpedia; since DBpedia is based on parsing inexact and varied markup, there is a lot of complexity in getting the accuracy high, particularly in the problem that it’s hard to interact with Wikipedia with an automated system to fix problems efficiently. DBpedia Live was a step in the right direction, but you still have to deal with stability of identifiers problems that have come up in another thread.
WikiData was ambitious project and it has been pulled off well.
A big impact I see from it is that I’m not happy with the concept that wikipedia-en is the Universe anymore, and WikiData will help with that. For instance, there are pretty places in Portugal that are not documented well outside that language area – despite the fact that tourists could get there easily from the en, fr, nl, de, etc. zones. Similarly, news agencies and bibliographers will benefit from better coverage. Perhaps they’ll find the bus stops excessive, but they are a must for the Hitchhikers’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Fully integrated with Wikipedia, WikiData will also improve the coverage of all the Wikipedias since will be easy to link up content. It’s exciting.

Subject: Re: [Wikidata-l] The Day the Knowledge Graph Exploded
WikiData is a great project, but this progress has been building, excrutiatingly slowly, over decades. One could even make the argument that WikiData is the result of Knowledge Graph and its antecedents rather than the other way around.

Hi everyone,
At Wikimania we had several discussions about the future of Wikidata and
Commons. Some broader feedback would be nice.
Now we have a property "Commons category"
(https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P373). This is a string and an
intermediate solution.
In the long run Commons should probably be a wikibase instance in it's
own right (structured metadata stored at Commons) integrated with
Wikidata.org, see
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Wikimedia_Commons for more info.
In the meantime we should make Commons a wikidata client like Wikipedia
and Wikivoyage. How would that work?
We have an item https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q9920 for the city
Haarlem. It links to the Wikipedia article "Haarlem" and the Wikivoyage
article "Haarlem". It should link to the Commons gallery "Haarlem"
We have an item https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7427769 for the category
Haarlem. It links to the Wikipedia category "Haarlem". It should link to
the Commons category "Haarlem"
The category item (Q7427769) links to article item (Q9920) using the
property "main category topic"
We would need to make an inverse property of P301 to make the backlink.
Some reasons why this is helpful:
* Wikidata takes care of a lot of things like page moves, deletions,
etc. Now with P373 (Commons category) it's all manual
* Having Wikidata on Commons means that you can automatically get
backlinks to Wikipedia, have intro's for category, etc etc
* It's a step in the right direction. It makes it easier to do next steps
Small change, lot's of benefits!
Maarten
Hello,
I'm beginning with wikidata and didn't find how to add a date which is
not exact. In fact I found [1], which would gain clarity with an
example, but the given format is refused when I try to use it. For
example, I want to add birth and death date for Pittacus of Mytilene[2],
for which I know no accurate value, but it something like -650 to -570,
with something like a quarter century accuracy. Actually, looking at the
English Wikipedia, -640 to -568 is given, but without sources
unfortunatly. Well, for the sake of the example lets ignore that, what
input should I provide to the birth day property to match my previous
description?
